Bremerton Beyond Accessible Play is a committed group of parents, educators and community members working together with the City of Bremerton Parks and Recreation to create opportunities for inclusive, accessible play. In 2011, 3 mothers of children with special needs, Rebekah Uhtoff, April Mills and Stephanie Johnson decided to build an accessible playground to provide a place for children of AL
L abilities to play together. Bremerton Beyond Accessible Play was formed and joined with the city of Bremerton to create Kitsap County's first beyond accessible playground in Bremerton, Washington. With community support, fundraising efforts and grants we were able to raise the funds to build a beyond accessible playground at the Evergreen Rotary Park at 1400 Park Avenue in Bremerton. Beyond Accessible Play worked tirelessly with the city of Bremerton to design a playground that goes beyond the ADA requirements to be latex-free, anti-static, accessible to different mobilities and modalities, safe and challenging for all. Our vision now is to promote the legacy of Rebekah Uhtoff by creating an annual National Inclusive Play Date on the 4th Saturday in June.
