Back-to-School Countdown: Friday Reset

School starts again on Monday — and today is about helping children’s bodies and brains remember what school rhythm feels like.

Not a full reset.
Not strict routines overnight.
Just gentle preparation.

Easing bedtimes.
Bringing wake-ups a little earlier.
Returning to predictable meals and snack times.
Talking about school in calm, curious ways — who they’ve missed, what they’re looking forward to, what they’d love in their lunchbox.

These small shifts help reduce stress before it shows up as behaviour.

Preparation isn’t pressure.
It’s support.

We hold space for students finding their future bound pathway. We wish for everyone to graduate and develop their love for learning. At minimum, we wish for students to live a life that gives purpose.

With a heavy heart, we honor Kitsap Strong Youth Leader Sam’s young life by listening to and learning from what he chose to share to help others better understand myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), an under-researched and under-resourced illness that can increasingly isolate people of all ages from school, work, care, community, and social connection.

In October 2023, Sam shared what resilience meant to him through the example of his mom. Sam gave us the gift of insights to carry through their advocacy:
▫️Seeking to understand someone’s whole story of how they get up everyday and what supports them in this process.
▫️When we care about justice, we can take action.

Holding space for those closest to Sam, for all the lives he touched, and for Hero, his loyal service dog and companion.

Back-to-school refresher!

School buses are back on Washington roads! And that means it's time for a refresher on when to stop. 🚌🛑

During a single day in 2026, Washington school bus drivers reported 960 illegal passes. If that pace continued across the 180-day school year, it would amount to more than 172,000 violations.

With nearly 341,000 Washington students riding the bus each day, knowing the rules matters.

🛑Flashing red lights or stop arm out? STOP.
🛑On a two-lane road, traffic in both directions must stop.
🛑On roads with three or more marked lanes, drivers traveling in the opposite direction generally do not have to stop, but drivers traveling in the same direction as the bus always do.

Illegally passing a stopped school bus carries a mandatory $500 fine.
