In 1971, Woody Herman’s Thundering Herd presented a concert at my high school that changed my life and inspired my music career.

Throughout the 1980s I performed benefit concerts for local schools and nonprofits across Northern Michigan with a big band that included many members of the Bay Area Big Band. Among the students in attendance was Peter Deneen, who continued his music career and became the band director at Traverse City East Middle School and a founding member of the Bay Area Big Band.
