I never thought I’d be starting a blog about grief—but when you’ve walked through the unimaginable and you’re still here, still holding onto faith, sometimes your story becomes someone else’s lifeline.

This blog is for the brokenhearted. For the grieving parents. For anyone who has ever questioned how to keep moving when the weight of loss feels unbearable.

It’s also for Jaelynn—my brave, beautiful daughter who faced brain cancer with a strength and spirit like nothing I’ve ever seen. She went to be with the Lord on May 2, 2023, at just 10 years old. Her light is the heartbeat behind everything I write.

Still Standing, Still Faithfully is where I share the raw, real, faith-filled journey through grief—and how God is still carrying me.

🍀 Remembering Jaelynn This St. Patrick’s Day 🍀

Two years ago, Jaelynn was celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with her beautiful smile, full of life and joy—completely unaware of the battle ahead. Just a month later, we learned she had brain cancer. A little over a year later, she was gone.

Jaelynn should still be here. She should be celebrating today with us. Instead, we hold onto her memory, her light, and her love. She is the reason we fight for families facing childhood cancer. No family should have to choose between paying bills and caring for their child. No child should have to fight this fight.

Today, we honor Jaelynn by carrying forward her mission—helping families who need support, just as we once did. We miss her beyond words, but through The Ohana Foundation, her spirit continues to shine.

These photos of Jaelynn radiate the pure joy, light, and the pure happiness she carried with her. Her spirit shines so brightly in every memory, and though she is no longer physically here, her love and legacy continue through Jaelynn’s Mission at The Ohana Foundation.

This St. Patrick’s Day, we celebrate the beautiful girl who was surrounded by love, and we honor her by spreading that love to families facing the unimaginable. Jaelynn may be gone too soon, but her impact is everlasting.

As you know, Childhood cancer is very dear to our hearts. This warmer is more than just a warmer to us. This warmer was made for our girl. Jaelynn was our sunshine ☀️ day in and day out. She had the best sense of humor and loved everyone. If you had the privilege to know her, YOU KNOW!! The smile warmer is a reminder and memory of the her beautiful smile. It’s a reminder of the wonderful memories of our beautiful girl.

In 2024 ~The Families We’ve Helped-

At The Ohana Foundation, we know that childhood cancer affects the entire family—physically, emotionally, and financially. No parent should have to choose between paying bills, putting food on the table or caring for their child. That’s why we step in to provide critical support. Thanks to our generous donors, we have:

✔️ Provided holiday assistance for over 20 families, ensuring children with cancer and their siblings experienced the joy of the season.
✔️ Paid numerous utility bills, keeping families’ homes warm, bright, and stable during treatment.

I can’t unsee it.

I can’t unsee the small, innocent bodies burdened with illness that doesn’t hold back.

Or the children braving procedures with a level of strength that grown adults never reach.

I can’t unsee the little girl confidently leading the way of her entire family while using her cane for the visually impaired.

Or the mother and father trying their best to tend to their toddlers' needs after just losing their baby hours before due to surgical complications.

I can’t unsee the sweet, angelic face of the little boy about to endure an eight hour brain surgery.

Or the mother’s shining light in the face of a fiery trial.

I can’t unsee the parents hugging their baby, handing them off to a team of doctors, reassuring their child that they will be okay, and as soon as the doors close hugging each other. Their brave exteriors melting into the worry of what will come next.

Or the families that experience the shattering weight of their beloved child receiving a terminal diagnosis. Holding both unimaginable sorrow and the joy of shared moments in the same hand.

I can’t unsee the mothers tired and weary eyes after coming to their temporary home to take a shower, grab extra clothes, and then head back to the hospital where they have lived for what seems like forever.

Or the daughter clinging tightly to her father because she is afraid of the machines and medical equipment surrounding her.

I can’t unsee the families navigating the unknowns of the medically complex world, advocating with a fierce love that never backs down.

Or the celebrations that ensue for each small victory.

I can’t unsee it because it has become the lense in which I now see the world. Suddenly, all of the things I thought were important have been turned upside down and shaken up, revealing things that are ACTUALLY important.

I can’t unsee it and I never want to because living in this world transforms every part of you. I love deeper because I have known and seen sorrow. I see clearer because my vision is no longer clouded by the unimportant. I can serve better because I have experienced the blessings of service. I am forever changed.

All that I need to do now is keep my eyes open.
