The Historical Society received about 15 photos of the Egel family. The photos were found in New Jersey with a note that stated: Joseph Egel (married to Mary Walsh Egel), Breezy Point NY - 7th Avenue, Born 1899 and Died 1987. The donor did not know the Egel family. The attached photo had the following inscription on the back,"This is my wife taken before we were married. She still looks the same though - Joe Egel." Does anybody know the Egel family?

The Historical Society loves to receive donations of historical significance to Breezy Point. Recently someone anonymously donated a VHS tape of the 1995 Teen Show "Let's Go to the Movies" (we have from a reliable source it was one of the best Teen Shows ever). We have posted a few highlights from the show on our YouTube channel. We hope you enjoy the show and please let us know if you recognize any of the stars. Do you have any photos or VHS tapes that you would like to share with the Historical Society? Please let us know......

Enjoy some wonderful clips from the 1995 Teen Show "Let's Go to the Movies."

HALL OF FAME NOMINATIONS OPEN

Dear Friends & Neighbors,

The Breezy Point Historical Society again intends to select individuals for induction into its Hall of Fame. As such we are asking residents to offer names of individuals for consideration of this honor. As in the past, mere popularity or prominence would not necessarily qualify someone for the HOF. Rather, nominees should have made significant historical contributions to the Breezy Point community either during the past 66 years since the Cooperative was formed or during the communities’ formative years beginning in the 1900’s. Prior honorees were: Joseph W.Stehn, Ruth B. Clarke, Julia Ryan, Gert Hendry, P Howard Reid, the Wilmarth Family, Dr. William McVeigh, Al Neimeth Sr. & Jr., Joseph D’Amato, Ted Feimer Sr., Thom McCarthy, the Friberg/Schaffner Families, Mary Ellen Barnes and 50 Years of the Teen Show, Thomas Hennessy, the Joint Action Committee, the Rockaway Point News and Patricia Tissot. Should you wish to offer someone for consideration kindly send us their name and affiliation, if any, and a short synopsis of what their contribution to the community was. Please send this to the Breezy Point Historical Society office at 204-08 Rockaway Point Blvd by no later than March 15th. Or if you wish you can send the information to our email address which is [email protected] The Hall of Fame Committee and the Society’s Board of Trustees will be making the final decision for the 2026 nominees taking into consideration all names offered. Thank you in advance.

What a great response to our 1940s postcard of Courtney Lane. Here are a few more postcards from our collection that we hope you enjoy ( Do you recognize the famous athlete who was visiting Hillside Avenue in Roxbury?)

We are looking for some Christmas photos of old or current Breezy Point. Those that depict scenery are especially appreciated. Please email us at [email protected] with any photos or information. Thank you.

The Historical Society just received a wonderful donation of 50 photos (with a promise of hundreds of more to follow)from a family that had a bungalow on Courtney Lane. The attached postcard is part of the collection and it states "Looking East on Courtney Lane, early 1940s." The family was concerned that the photos might disappear and wanted them to be preserved. Thank you!

Please search your closets for photos that we can scan and digitalize for our permanent collection.

The Historical Society had a wonderful year and we want to thank our members for their support. Not only did we have four presentations but we published our second Journal of Breezy Point History, produced our annual Christmas ornament and concluded the year with our Hall of Fame Banquet. Congratulations again to the Rockaway Point News and Pat Tissot for this honor. We have posted the video presentation of Pat to our YouTube channel so please check it out. Have a great off-season and we can't wait to make some new history in 2026!

The last presentation by the Society of the season will be Wednesday, August 13th, at the Point Breeze clubhouse at 7pm. Historic photos of the first settlers of Breezy Point, the Friberg family, dating back over 100 years will be presented by their descendants, the Donlon family who still reside in Breezy Point. We are also excited to announce that the recently published 2nd Journal of Breezy Point History will be available for sale. The Journal has the Friberg photos as well as a story by Marty Ingram about Hurricane Sandy. Please join us for an evening of memories.
