🪓 STEWARDSHIP + CAMPOUT WEEKEND 🏕️
Superior National Forest // June 12–14

Public lands don’t take care of themselves. That’s where YOU come in.

Join the Minnesota Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers for a weekend of hard work, good company, and wild country in the Superior National Forest.

🔥 The Mission: Recent fires, funding cuts, and personnel shortages have left a Hunter Walker Trail near the St. Louis River in need of some love. These foot-only trails exist for one reason — hunters — and BHA is exactly the org for the job.

📍 The Plan:

🏕️ FRI 6/12 — Roll into camp at a Forest Service campground

🪚 SAT 6/13 — Caravan to the work site, ~6 hours of trail clearing & maintenance

⛏️ SAT PM — Visit a proposed copper-nickel mine site threatening the Boundary Waters

🌲 SUN 6/14 — Look at how modern forestry shapes game populations & habitat

🍻 All weekend — Campfires, tall tales, and like-minded folks who give a damn

This is what grassroots conservation actually looks like. No keyboard warriors. Just sweat, sawdust, and stewardship.

This weekend our chapter hosted the 2026 Turkey & Trout Classic where members new and old conveniened at Rock Lake Campground to enjoy a weekend of turkey hunting and fishing together. Friendships were made, stories were told and public land was loved and admired.

Highlights:
Mentored Turkey hunting 🦃
Campfire meals ⛺️
Chilly nights by the fire 🔥
Bears spotted! 🧸
Canoe and fishing 🎣

The fight isn’t over — but we showed up.

HJ 140 passed. That’s not the outcome we wanted. But what happened in the process matters: Minnesotans showed up in force for the Boundary Waters. Hunters, anglers, paddlers, conservationists — united. That kind of pressure doesn’t disappear when a bill passes.

Thank you to everyone who made calls, sent emails, showed up to hearings, and refused to stay quiet. BHA Minnesota sees you.

We’re hearing the vote on H.J.R. 140 is expected tomorrow. We have moved the needle. Legislators are reconsidering. But progress is not victory. Not yet.

This is our Crown Jewel. This is OUR land. They want it? Come try to take it.

What a weekend at the Pheasant Fest & Quail Classic.

Three full days of real conversations, handshakes, and standing shoulder to shoulder with people who care deeply about hunting, conservation, and the future of our public lands. The energy in that building was strong.

We’re proud to say over 1,000 people signed our petition to help fight H.J. Res. 140 and protect the Boundary Waters watershed. That didn’t happen by accident, it happened because this community shows up.

Grateful for every single person who stopped by the booth, asked thoughtful questions, and took the time to engage. Weekends like this remind us that conservation isn’t a spectator sport.

Minnesota shows up.
