Please join the Breese Historical Society on Sunday, October 23 at 1 pm for our co-dedication of our newly built Miners Monument in honor of six men who were lost in a tragic accident at the East Mine in 1906
The site of the East mine is now the Southside Park. The City of Breese has accepted our proposal to rename Southside Park to Miners Park to honor these lost souls and all the past miners in our community who were integral in the success in building the community of Breese.

We looking for a few items to display at The Breese Library for a few weeks some Coal Mining items. We have a miners bucket but we are hoping for maybe a pick ax, miners hat, carbide lamp. Anything similar to these would be great as The Breese Historical Society want to display items to spur the interest in our mines. I promise I will make sure to get these items back to you as soon as I can. Please private message me

Have you ever seen this?

Was it a time to run for our lives? Seventy foot prehistoric creatures roamed the landscape once again? Nope. Marshall Mollet constructed his “monster” using an old ear corn elevator, a telephone pole, and a number of discarded tires. The nearly 100 tires ranged all the way from lawnmower tires to oversized semi and tractor tires; part of the tail was made from inner-tubes. Mollet’s dinosaur stood against a hillside across the Shoal Creek bottoms (viewed a few miles west of Greenville driving along state highway 140) for quite a number of years and even attracted the attention of a television crew from St Louis.

Thanks to Ginny Wise for keeping her scrapbooks and donating them to Bond County Historical Society!
