We partner with local stakeholders to provide logistic support for clean up efforts.

Due to ongoing rain, unfavorable conditions, and scheduling considerations, Louisiana Bayou Society’s Father’s Day cleanup event will be postponed to a later date.

We know many of you were planning to join us, and we appreciate your understanding. We will announce a new date as soon as conditions allow.

On a personal note, this Father’s Day is a difficult one for our family following the recent passing of my father, David Chaillot. Many of you knew him or have heard the stories of the countless days we spent fishing, sh*****ng, crabbing, and exploring Louisiana’s waters together. The support our family has received over the past few weeks has meant more than words can express.

Thank you all for your continued support of Louisiana Bayou Society and our mission to protect the waters we love.

— Dominick Chaillot
President, Louisiana Bayou Society

Traditions on the water.

From my earliest memories, my father, David Chaillot, instilled in me a love of nature — and especially a love of being on the water. Both Alex and I have some of our very first memories out on the water with him.

He was not a complicated man. He was driven by food, fishing, music, and his own sense of freedom. Everyone who knew him thought of him as kind-hearted, even as he got older and a little grumpier.

In the last years of his life, most of the time we spent together was fishing, crabbing, sh*****ng, or simply being somewhere near the water. One of the very first people we called when Louisiana Bayou Society got its first boat was my dad. He came to help us launch it for the very first time… and promptly launched himself face-first right into the bayou with it. That was him.

He gave me more than he will ever know.

So much of my childhood was spent traveling with him while he played harmonica with different bands. Lots of late nights. Lots of gigs. Years later, I found myself following a similar road — playing music and touring with bands myself. Even now, I still hear him sometimes when I speak… his mannerisms, his idioms, his jokes.

My father passed away on May 18th. He will be deeply missed.

This coming Father’s Day, we would like to host an event celebrating time spent with your family on the water. The memories you build now will stay with you for the rest of your life. Please consider joining us for a day of celebration, community, and appreciation for the people we love.

I don’t have children of my own, so this Father’s Day, I’ll be out there for my dad.

More details on exact times and launch location will be disseminated over the next few weeks.

The story of St. Martin Parish is inseparable from the story of the water that flows through it. Life here has always moved along water, carrying culture, commerce, cuisine and language with it. Seen from above, the network of waterways running through the parish resembles a giant living organism.

Huge thank you to everyone who came out this morning and showed love for Butte La Rose!

Because of y’all, we removed over 200 pounds of litter from the water and filled an entire boat with discarded tires. That’s a big impact in just a few hours.

We also want to recognize how smooth and respectful this cleanup was — we had everything picked up and were cleared out by 3 PM.

This is just the beginning. Keeping our waterways clean is going to take a consistent, ongoing effort, and we’re committed to continuing the work.

If you missed this one, don’t worry — there will be more opportunities to get involved soon.

Thank you again to everyone who showed up, brought their boats, and put in the work. Let’s keep Butte La Rose beautiful.
