Safer Avenues For Everyone

Safer Avenues For Everyone Stay Safe! Elementary schools and drive-thrus don’t go together - on Flower Ave or at any elementary school in Brea.

Protecting the Laurel Elementary Magnet School’s “SCHOOL ZONE” and the residential streets in our Community to ensure Safer Avenues For Everyone is our mission. CURRENT GASLIGHT APPLICATION CAN BE FOUND HERE: http://weblink.cityofbrea.net/weblink/0/doc/148329/Page1.aspx

We are volunteers safeguarding the LAUREL SCHOOL ZONE from incompatible businesses, uses and activities to prevent excessive ri

sks & traffic so that pedestrians, young and old, are ensured a safe environment. Our goal is to keep the existing Brea General Plan and Zoning Codes that prohibit uses like drive-thru restaurants in Gaslight Square and Gun Shops alongside homes or in a School Zone. Elementary schools and Gun & Ammo Shops don’t go together - on Imperial Hwy or in any school zone in Brea. We expect and see our duty to help ensure safer avenues for everyone.

ANOTHER Traffic study has been done around Laurel Elementary Magnet School. Community input opportunity will be June 26th, 7 pm at the City maintenance yard on Berry. Will they actually do something this time or will it just be another waste of money. Please join us there to find out.
(Ironically this is the same date/time as the BOUSD school board meeting. You would think the city would want School District input)

Mr Manleys response to the vacated Kyoto building on Birch St.
Quote "raising canes was looking at it. Birch street has always been the “locals “ street. No drive thru or other things that belong on imperial or lambert."

His proposed drivethru in Gaslight Square will not be accessible from Imperial Hwy. Instead traffic will be directed onto residential streets. One which is directly in front of Laurel Elementary School. If the city follows thru with their intent to close Flower Ave at the Imperial intersection, then all traffic will be redirected to Birch St and Orange Ave. By his own definition, no drive thru should be allowed.

Just in time for school to start, dirt is being pushed around at Gaslight Square. Still no updates on traffic controls that were presented 2 years ago.
Remember this November who put kids safety above city profits.

08/02/2024

School opens Aug. 15th for Laurel and BOUSD.
Stay alert in school zones.

Now that school is out, share a place you have visited with others!

To all the moms out there who are always looking out for kids and wanting to ensure their surrounding are safe. School zones are one of those areas that need to remain safe for kids. Help us keep this zone free from drive thrus.

Reaching out... what is your definition of a "special pedestrian condition" present in a school zone and how should it be protected? Is signage/lower speed limit enough?
