The weather is warming up as we look back on this year’s Sugar-on-Snow during the Brattleboro Winter Carnival! We served up a sweet tradition, had some fun, and got a chance to be out in the community we love!

It wouldn’t be possible to have such an incredible event without the community showing up for us each year and The Boys & Girls Club of Brattleboro lending us their tables.

Last week, we had the opportunity to hear about Duel Enrollment at Brattleboro Union High School. This offers high school students the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school. In world with rising college costs, this is setting students up for long term success at college, a lower cost of higher education, and to have the confidence to know that the can do college.

What would you have done if you had the option for your high school classes to count for college credit?

It’s wonderful to see what can happen when a group of Rotarians get together! This weekend, we were hard at work to help freshen up the Brattleboro Senior Center with a fresh coat of paint!

Another successful event!

Another successful event!

A big thanks to everyone who came to our 11th Brattleboro On Wheels! It was a learning experience setting up on the Brattleboro Common, especially after the rain turned the originally planned entrance into a mudhole, but we managed to figure it out!

Over 80 cars and trucks, ranging from 1930 to 2021, and one motorcycle.

The trophies:
Best Motorcycle: Robert Brooks' 1983 Honda Shadow 750
Best Truck: Alan Robertshaw's 1954 Chevy Pickup
Best Car: Chris Thompson's 1941 Cadillac Fleetwood

The other prizes:
Kids Choice Award: Pete Fortier's 2007 Ford Mustang
Best Paint Job: Dennis Brantley's 1969 Mercury Cyclone CJ
Best Original/Unrestored: Dan Tyler's 1966 Land Rover
Best "Orphan Car" (make no longer exists): Mike Staats' 1969 AMC AMX
Most Likely to be Stopped for Speeding: Alex Whitmore's 1995 Mazda Miata

The 50/50 raffle gave out $180.50 and the other half went to charity, as did all other funds raised for the day!

The Brattleboro Rotary Club supports local charities, does local volunteer projects, gives out scholarships, and truly appreciates all who come to have fun and support good causes!

One of the raffle prizes at our annual golf tournament was for a group from the club to spend a couple of hours one morning do garden cleanup, and today was the day! 5 Rotarians with tools and gloves cleaned out 3 perennial gardens, removing the weeds so the plants that belong can thrive. This has been a very popular fundraiser (we did the same in the spring from a winter raffle), for local charities and local scholarships, so we are certainly going to repeat it!

The noon Brattleboro Rotary Club celebrated the annual changeover of presidents Thursday night at the Saxtons Distillery. President Rob Szpila turned over the reins of the club to incoming president Chris Hart during a ceremony which included the transfer of a faux alligator briefcase, the contents of which are known only to club presidents. The festivities included announcement of two Paul Harris Fellowship pins -- one to Bill Vermouth for his tireless work on fundraising activities and one to Carla Lineback for her dedication to the Rotary International Foundation. A check for $500 from the club was presented to Lise Sparrow for a new program for high school refugee girls she is doing in conjunction with the Boys and Girls Club. On Fridays, the girls will volunteer at Loaves & Fishes to accumulate service hours needed for graduation and then have time to swim and other recreational activities. Other visitors included members of the Sunrise Rotary Club, our partner in many activities. Food for the changeover was catered by theGuilford Country Store. The Brattleboro Rotary Club meets at noon on Thursdays at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites. Guests are welcome.
