Celebrating 30 years of welcoming SIT students in the Netherlands! ❤️

For three decades, Olaf Schoonhoven has opened his home to SIT Study Abroad students, sharing Dutch culture, everyday experiences, and meaningful moments that make studying abroad so special.

Homestay hosts play an essential role in the SIT experience, helping students connect with their host communities, experience new perspectives, and create memories that last long after their programs end.

We are incredibly grateful to Olaf for 30 years of hospitality, dedication, and contributions to the SIT community. Thank you for helping make the study abroad experience so meaningful for generations of students!

Some moments in study abroad simply can’t be replicated in a classroom. 🇮🇳

During a recent excursion to McLeod Ganj in Himachal Pradesh, students in SIT’s India: Public Health, Gender, and Sexuality program had the extraordinary opportunity to receive a blessing from His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Their time in McLeod Ganj is part of a broader exploration of health and well-being within the region’s Tibetan community. Students learn through firsthand experiences as they examine how public health, gender, sexuality, and community intersect across diverse contexts in India.

Did you know SIT Switzerland programs include a Swiss Travel Pass? 🇨🇭🚆

The pass gives students access to Switzerland’s extensive public transportation network, making it easy to explore new cities and destinations during free weekends. Valued at approximately $1,000, it offers significant savings on transportation by train, bus, and boat—so students can spend more time exploring and less time worrying about getting around.

SIT alum TJ Broyles from Loyola Marymount University studied on our International Studies and Multilateral Diplomacy program and called the Swiss Travel Pass one of the best parts of his experience. It gave him the opportunity to see more of Switzerland on the weekends—and even get some homework done on the train along the way!

"When I found IHP Climate Change, I initially didn't believe it was real. Not only did it span four continents, but it was focused on my minor in environmental studies. The biggest appeal of studying abroad for me is to challenge oneself, and experience a new lifestyle. The International Honors Program is the epitome of this idea, getting to experience multiple vastly different lifestyles in one semester, and I could not pass on such an opportunity." and University of Vermont graduate Aidan Holmes

From the Sahara to the Himalayas to the Amazon, a semester studying abroad with SIT’s International Honors Program (IHP) took recent University of Vermont (UVM) graduate Aidan Holmes across four continents—and helped shape what comes next. 🎉 🥈 Congratulations to our photo contest second place winner, Eric Feichthaler from Georgetown University! Eric participated in our Tanzania: Wildlife Conservation and Political Ecology program in fall 2025. His caption below:

"Just lyin’ around.
This was the first lion I saw in Tanzania, and it was an unbelievable preliminary sighting. He was not easy to spot, but finding him immediately taught me that if I kept an open eye I could find amazing things in Tanzania. This lesson was true, as I saw seemingly boundless wildlife including dozens of lions throughout the semester. It all started with this lion, who was resting after a big meal.
I call him Garfield."
