🎉 🥇 Congratulations to our SIT Photo Contest first place winner, Rhett Krovitz from University of Virginia! Rhett participated in our Spring 2026 Iceland: Climate Change and the Arctic program and shared the following caption:

“A student enjoys the beautiful glacier caves out southern Iceland. Blue hues of all shades and depths. A stunning scenery while learning about the history of glacial formation and transition.”

Rhett’s first place photo captures both the striking beauty of Iceland’s glacier caves and the field-based learning at the heart of the SIT experience—studying climate change and glacial processes within the landscapes where they are unfolding.

Congratulations again, Rhett!

🔆 SIT Alum spotlight 🔆 Jeromel Dela Rosa Lara studied abroad in Jordan in Spring 2022 on SIT's Geopolitics, International Relations, and the Future of the Middle East program. Today, he holds a prestigious teaching position at King’s Academy in Jordan!

Jeromel shares reflections on his experiences below:
"Coming from a background in Social Anthropology of the Middle East and Migration Studies, SIT Geopolitics Program in Jordan was the stepping stone for my deep appreciation for Jordan and Arab societies. SIT enabled me to apply and develop my interests in research, education, and humanitarian work in the region.

I am a teacher at King's Academy, an international boarding high school in Jordan founded by His Majesty King Abdullah II. From being a student in Jordan through SIT, I now have the honor to teach here! I get to work in fulfilling the King's vision where Jordan sets a global example of supporting the potential and dignity of young people from all walks of life.

Complimentary to my role as an educator, I am very involved in the arts, research, and humanitarian volunteer initiatives in the country. Since my time at SIT, I have become so grounded in Jordan and in the region. It has become a second home for me. Jordan is where I have grown and continue to grow personally, intellectually, and professionally."

Jeromel received his bachelor's degree in Social Anthropology and Comparative Study of Religion from Harvard University, and master's degree in Migration Studies from University of Oxford.

🇦🇺 ✨️ Memories of Australia from SIT student Anika Amann ✨️ 🇦🇺

"The Rainforest, Reef, and Cultural Ecology program was a fantastic experience that allowed me to bridge my educational passions with bucket list items like snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef and visiting the Daintree Rainforest! As a biochemistry major who loves ecology, I chose this program to broaden my research horizons and ended up discovering career paths that combine the two disciplines, showing me I can carve out my own path in science. I was encouraged to pursue independent research that matched my interests, grew my confidence as a researcher and communicator, and pushed the boundaries of what I thought was possible. I gained so much from this experience, but my biggest takeaway is the confidence I’ve gained not only in myself, but also in the existence of opportunities and experiences I never could have imagined. I come away from this experience with stories, memories, connections, and ideas that are going to—and already have— changed the trajectory of my career and life."
