Attend an upcoming workshop in Bellows Falls, Wilmington, or Brattleboro to learn more about the draft Windham Region Cultural Plan!

Culture, creativity and the arts are a fundamental part of our region’s identity and a driver of our local economy. The Towns of Brattleboro, Rockingham, and Wilmington, with assistance from the Windham Regional Commission, have come together to secure grant funding from the Vermont Department of Housing and Community Development to develop a Windham Region Cultural Plan. It’s time for a plan that represents who we are today and reimagines how arts and culture can help us rebuild a more creative, more equitable, and more prosperous future!

Workshops:

- Rockingham Town Hall, Lower Theater, 7 Square, Bellows Falls. Wednesday, July 23, 12-1:30pm

- Wilmington Town Hall, 2 East Main Street, Wilmington. Wednesday, July 23, 6pm

- Selectboard Meeting Room, Brattleboro Municipal Center, 230 Main Street Brattleboro. Thursday, July 24, 6:30pm

PROGRAM UPDATE: In light of the reduced funding allocation for the Brattleboro Town Arts Fund, has decided to postpone the launch of the 2025 application cycle until January 2026, effectively combining this year’s and next year’s application process and funding resources.

While the Brattleboro Selectboard voted in April to restore $15,000 for the Town Arts Fund in the revised FY26 Town budget, the finalized budget that was sent to and approved at Representative Town Meeting in May included an additional reduction of $5,000 from the TAF program, for a final award of $10,000 for FY26.

By combining the 2025 and 2026 application cycles, ACWC will be able to offer a more robust grant program, providing more substantial support to a wider range of grantees and creative projects. Extending the timeframe of the application launch will also allow more time to engage in long-range planning and outreach, and to recalibrate the program in light of current funding realities and needs in the community.

The next application window will open in early January 2026. We’ll be sharing additional updates this fall on the 2026 grant cycle, including schedule, guidelines, information sessions and events. Stay tuned!

Check of this public art opportunity from Town Arts Fund grantee, Downtown Brattleboro Alliance!

We are thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for local artists to transform electrical boxes* into vibrant works of public art. The Spark Street Mural Project aims to enhance the beauty of downtown Brattleboro while celebrating artistic talent and fostering community engagement. This program is made possible with generous support from The Brattleboro Town Arts Fund, which enables the development and presentation of creative projects that contribute positively to the greater community and to the vibrancy and diversity of Brattleboro’s arts and cultural landscape.

Project Overview
The Spark Street Mural Project invites artists to create original, small-scale murals on electrical transformers throughout downtown Brattleboro. These mini murals will reflect the unique character and spirit of the town, incorporating themes such as diversity, nature, community, history, and creativity. By integrating public art into everyday urban spaces, this initiative seeks to enliven the streetscape and inspire both residents and visitors.

Eligibility & Selection Criteria
The project is open to artists and artist teams residing in Brattleboro and surrounding communities. The DBA encourages proposals from artists of all backgrounds and experience levels, with an emphasis on highlighting traditionally underrepresented groups. Proposals will be reviewed based on the following criteria:

Artistic merit and originality of the proposed design.

Alignment with the themes and goals of the project.

Feasibility of implementation, considering technical and safety requirements.

Demonstrated ability to complete projects on schedule and within budget.

Project Timeline

Proposal Submission Deadline: March 12, 2025

Selection of Artists: April 23, 2025

Project Implementation: May 7, 2025

Project Completion: July 9, 2025

Budget & Responsibilities
Each selected artist will receive a $1,000 stipend to cover materials and labor. Artists will be responsible for providing weather-resistant paints and protective coatings to ensure the longevity of their work. Additionally, they will collaborate with project organizers to meet safety regulations and preserve the functionality of the electrical transformers.

Submission Guidelines
Interested artists should submit the following materials:

A brief artist statement outlining their interest in the project and relevant experience.

Up to five examples of past work, preferably including public art or mural projects.

A sketch or mock-up of the proposed electrical transformer mural design.

Proposals should be submitted electronically to Kay Curtis ([email protected]) by March 12, 2025 with the subject line “Spark Street Mural Proposal.”

Reposted from In early 2020, right before the pandemic, I was planning to make an animated film with kids who had been adopted from foster care, here in Windham County, VT. My collaborator, Tamara Evanson, and I even got a grant — but in order to stay safe, our project morphed into a series of audio interviews with foster/adoptive families, adult adoptees, and adoption support professionals. Yes, it’s a podcast! And now 4 years later — you can listen! LINK IN MY BIO! And join us for a little celebration on October 23 from 7-8pm at the Brooks Memorial Library here in Brattleboro. ❤️ Funded in part by with music by and lots of extra help from ✨🎧✨ I’d love to know what you think. This one is from the heart. 💕
