The floodplain restoration at Kikitta Ahki has become an important part of Brattleboro's pollinator pathway by creating great habitat for a variety of insects.
Join the Caterpillar Lab and Brattleboro Conservation Commission on August 12 to learn about and document some of these cool insects!
Caterpillar Lab will bring some fascinating caterpillars, Conservation Commission members will bring field guides, and there will be activities for all ages.
You just have to bring your curiosity, your water bottle, and your phone if you want to add to iNaturalist documentation of the park's insects!

FIND AND MAP INVASIVES ON YOUR PROPERTY
Sunday, June 14, noon - 2:00 pm
Guilford, VT

Could you map the invasive species on your property without leaving the couch? WRWA is joining the Vermont Woodlands Association (VWA) in co-hosting a woods walk led by consulting forester (and WRWA President) Andrew Morrison, at a Tree Farm in Guilford, VT. We will learn to identify invasive species growing on the property including: Bittersweet, Buckthorn, Japanese Barberry, Autumn Olive and others. Following this walk you will be able to use your knowledge of what habitats New England's invasive plants love best, to simplify mapping their presence on your property. Then you can use these maps to generate a more effective plan to protect and restore your property's forest habitats.

We'll practice on an aerial map of the landowners property but if you're interested you can provide your address ahead of time and we'll work to get you an aerial map of your own property.
VWA is handling the registration for this free event. Pre-registration is required. The exact location will be shared with registered participants. Register at vermontwoodlands.org by navigating to the Upcoming Events page.

Dummerston Conservation Commission and Windham Regional Woodlands Association are sponsoring a presentation by Paul Catanzaro, coauthor of “Tending Your Forest: A Guide to Ecological Stewardship,” a new book for landowners (and anyone else) who would like to better understand forest dynamics and how to care for their woodlands.

It's Day 4, the final day, of the Windham County City Nature Challenge and there's still time on this beautiful day to get out and make observations!
Just over a third of the 343 observations uploaded so far have been identified by a second iNaturalist user. If you want to help out with the identification to move as many observations as possible to Research Grade, you can do some ID work at home, or join a few of us in the Community Room at Brooks Memorial Library tomorrow evening (4/28), starting at 7 pm for a collaborative ID session!

It's Day 3 of the Windham County City Nature Challenge, part of the 4 day global City Nature Challenge, and we've got observations of 149 species, mostly plants, but also insects, birds, amphibians, fungi - and one lone mammal - from all over the county!

It's Day 1 of the Windham County City Nature Challenge and we're off to a good start. The global CNC goal is to observe and identify as many species as possible. Here in Windham County, our goal is to learn as much as we can about our ecosystems and the nature that surrounds us - in our own yards, along the streets of our small towns, and in our fields and forests, streams, and ponds. So get out there and start making observations, then upload them to iNaturalist!

iNaturalist is a global community of nature lovers and scientists sharing information about the plants, fungi, birds, and other organisms we find in the wild. It's also a global database of wild organisms, with identification tools - and with a way for other users to help out with IDs. Locally, we use it to learn about the spread of invasive plants and to help monitor our populations of native plants, pollinators, and other wild species.
