Thank you to everyone who flocked to our recent chicken coop raffle! Between ticket sales and your generosity, we raised $1,800, split 50/50 to support HatchSpace and our partner, the . We couldn't have done it without you.

And now, the moment you've all been waiting for... 🐔

Congratulations to our winner, Kristen Chutter-Cressy! Kristen and her family are moving to the Brattleboro area soon, and she's delighted that the Freshly Hatched coop will provide a new home for her chickens right as they settle in — talk about perfect timing!

A quick shoutout to the builders: the coop was designed and built by the teen craftspeople in our Carpentry Boot Camp, a program for 15-20 year-olds interested in the trades. This year's boot camp was a real success, giving young adults a hands-on, engaging way to explore different facets of carpentry and design, with the coop as proof of what they can build. We're proud of what they accomplished and excited for what's next.

🛠️ CARPENTRY BOOT CAMP FOR YOUNG ADULTS 🛠️ Ages 15–20 | July 20–31 | Mon–Fri, 10am–4pm

Do you know an older teen or recent high school graduate who loves making things — or who just hasn't found their thing yet? We're running a 10-day Carpentry Boot Camp this summer that's worth a look.

The program takes place at our awesome woodworking school and community workshop in downtown Brattleboro, VT — two full weeks of hands-on woodworking and construction skills for students ages 15 to 20 (high school sophomores through recent grads). Enrollment is capped at just 10 participants, so it's a small, focused group with close instruction and individualized attention.

🔷️ What makes this different from a typical summer camp: participants work with real, professional tools — table saws, miter saws, bandsaws, planers, CNC machines, laser cutters — alongside the fundamentals of measuring, carpentry math, and building materials. The capstone project is a uniquely designed chicken coop with student-designed customizations. Guest speakers from the trades and related industries give students a window into what careers in construction, design, and architecture actually look like day to day.

For parents, it's a structured, safety-first environment where young people build confidence, take on responsibility, and leave with practical skills that translate to the real world — whether or not they pursue the trades professionally.

💛 Generous need-based scholarships are available, and HatchSpace is committed to making sure cost isn't a barrier.
