A look back at our most recent NCMA Artist Innovation Mentorship session with June Rollins! 🌿💛

It is always such a joy watching these students discover what their hands can do. We are so grateful to the North Carolina Museum of Art for bringing this program to our community and to June for sharing her talent and her time with these incredible young people.

Want to learn more about the AIM program? Our Ventures Manager Caroline Teal recently gave a presentation all about it and you can find the recording on our YouTube channel! https://youtu.be/CEF5n6MVeK8?si=QIEzRz32IcuuidrI

While the Folk School’s primary programs have focused on adult students, the school has also offered some year-long opportunities for local children. In the early decades, the Folk School was involved with 4-H Clubs. The school has also hosted various youth dance teams, from longsword and rapper Morris to today’s Folk School Cloggers. The Brasstown chapter of the Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) program has become increasingly popular in recent years.

If you have ever thought about spending time on campus in a different way this is your chance!🌿
The Folk School Work Study program is a nine week experience where participants spend five weeks contributing to garden and grounds projects and four weeks taking classes right here on campus. You will share a house with fellow work studies, share meals with the community and immerse yourself in everything campus life has to offer from dances and concerts to Brasstown carving demos and social gatherings.

Student Hosts play a key role on campus for several months, welcoming students, serving as the after hours contact and acting as a link between staff, students and instructors. Hosts have a private room and the opportunity to take classes every single week.
The Campground Host program is also available for those with their own camper, van or RV who want to spend a session supporting overnight guests right here on our beautiful campus.
Applications for all three programs open Aug. 17 for 2027 sessions.

We would love to have you here in Brasstown 💛

Well, you saw studio row, now here is one of the most idyllic spots on campus. The garden! 🌿
Run by Jason Ebinger and Allie Starnes alongside amazing groups of work studies throughout the year, this spot is truly special.

There is nothing quite like watching the morning fog roll over the mountains while the garden comes to life. Till next time, enjoy! 💛

Playing the tune "Bullfrog on a Puncheon Floor" on a mountain dulcimer, while sitting on a puncheon floor in the log cabin at John C Campbell Folk School.
I learned this tune from Don Pedi years ago, but never saw a puncheon floor until this week!!
