Virginia Quilt Museum

One of the highlights of this trip was finally visiting the Virginia Quilt Museum in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Housed in a beautiful historic building in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, the museum preserves and interprets the rich quiltmaking traditions of Virginia and beyond. Every quilt tells a story, and the museum does a wonderful job of connecting those stories to the people and communities who created them.

A special thank you to Curator Alicia Thomas, who was an exceptionally gracious host during my visit. Alicia generously shared her knowledge of the collection, answered my many questions, and helped make the stop both informative and enjoyable. For anyone who has spent years researching quilts, there is nothing quite like spending time with someone who understands both the artistry and the history stitched into these textiles.

As I continue this Baltimore Album Quilt research journey, it was a pleasure to pause for a few hours and appreciate the remarkable quilts being preserved here.

If your travels ever take you through the Shenandoah Valley, the Virginia Quilt Museum is well worth a visit.
