Prescribed Burning to Benefit Wildlife
One of key uses of prescribed fire is to manipulate or manage vegetation for the benefit of wildlife species.
The timing of the burn depends on the wildlife management objectives for the specific species.

Some things to consider are:
>Burns should be managed with consideration for wildlife needs, such as nesting and feeding cover.
>Fall and winter burning generally favor the forb component in mixed stands and help improve plant structure and habitat diversity. Quail and turkey benefit from higher plant diversity conditions. One important factor is the associated insect species associated with a greater number of different native forb species
>Burning in the spring and fall of the same year greatly reduces stands of cool-season grasses, including tall fescue.

Ahhh... it's that time of year to sling some fire and time to recycle those soil nutrients such as Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), and Potassium (K) are usually tied up in organic matter .
All are released in a pulse at the burn site and leached into the soil, which increases availability to plants and soil microorganisms (bacteria, fungi and protists).

Working together, we are better.

Landowner Field Tour & Demonstration

White River Prescribed Burn Association
will be hosting an event for landowners interested in gaining knowledge, training and assistance in prescribed fire management on their properties and other benefits of being members in this landowner association.

Landowners in Taney County and adjacent counties will be welcome to attend.

Partners include the Missouri Prescribed Fire Council, Quail Forever, and the Missouri Department of Conservation.

Plans are being developed at this time to provide an afternoon/evening event with a field tour, a field demonstration, and of course refreshments, so stay tuned for more details!
