Gardening By Month - October

Now is the time to observe and choose nursery stock based on fall color, as peak color usually occurs in late October through early November.

Keep broccoli picked regularly to encourage additional production of side shoots.

Dig up sweet potatoes before a hard freeze.

Continue mowing lawns as needed.

Houseplants and other tropical plants should be brought inside by early to mid-October or before nighttime temperatures fall below 50 degrees. Before bringing plants in, check and treat (if needed) for spider mites, scale, whiteflies, and other pests.

With back-to-school events in full swing and the pressure of making sure the kids have everything they need, this time of year can really make households feel the crunch.

Thanks to YOUR support of our Twist Out Hunger campaign, over the last 24 hours we’ve been able to send out:

🍉 2 bins of watermelons
🍈 1 bin of cantaloupes
🍅 20 flats of fresh tomatoes
🌽 Around 15 boxes of peppers, zucchini, yellow squash, sweet corn & more!

That’s a whole lot of fresh produce that headed to Christian Action Ministries (CAM) to help families and individuals right here in our region. ❤️

And it’s all possible because of this amazing little community!

🌿🙈 FARMER TONY IS FEELING A LITTLE… UNPEACEFUL! 🙈🌿

Now y’all know Farmer Tony works harder than a tractor during hay season! 🚜💨

Between driving countless miles to bring fresh produce to the stand 🚚🌽, unloading truckloads of melons that somehow get heavier every year 🍉💪, working long days on just a few hours of sleep ☕😴, answering calls and texts 📞📱, designing the stand 🌿, leveling the produce tent 🛠️, digging trenches 🚜, growing tomatoes 🍅, watering plants 🌺, sharing gardening advice 🌱, meeting Melonie’s increasingly unreasonable demands for cantaloupe and leafy greens 🍈🐢💅, and handling just about every job that involves sweat, dirt, heavy lifting, or a shovel, Farmer Tony stays BUSY!

But there’s one thing that’s got him feeling a little upside down… 🙃

The VERY FIRST planter he planted this season still hasn’t sold!

Now, it might have a Peace Lily in it… but let us tell you, the mood is anything but peaceful around here. 🌿😤🤣

So Farmer Tony has made a decision…

This week is the 40th Annual Celebration of National Garden Week, and one Branson group is celebrating with free seeds and activities for the occasion.
