Branford Microfund recognizes and is excited to share the efforts of board member Angie Higgins as she participates in the amazing efforts of The Branford community foundation.
As we commemorate today the 25th anniversary of the tragic 9/11 attacks, we recognize a special Fund Friday. Today's highlighted fund is the Joseph E. Higgins Jr 9-11 Memorial Scholarship Fund.
This fund was established in 2020 to assist a first responder and to provide an annual scholarship award for graduating Branford High School students pursuing a vocation in Fire Fighting or Emergency Medical Services, or entering a career path or currently involved with the Branford Fire Services professional program. The fund intends to honor Joseph E. Higgins Jr’s deeply held belief in service before self.
Joe was about family first and then everything Fire Department. He was Past President of Fire Bell Club of New York, a recipient of FDNY Columbia Association Humanitarian Award, a recipient of FDNY O’Brien Community Award and received multiple awards for his work during the 9/11 attack, including a number of FBI 9/11 Memorial Awards. Joe passed away in 2020, and today we remember him, and all those who went above and beyond following the events of that tragic day 25 years ago.
