The Commemorative Air Force Capital Wing’s Stinson OY-1 “F4U Pocket Edition”—needs a new propellor. She is currently flying with a “loner” while awaiting the factory-new wooden prop, which is an investment of approximately $6,500.
Our Sentinel served with the U.S. Marine Corps as an OY-1 and flew from the Es**rt Carrier "White Plains" (CVE-66) during the Battle of Saipan on June 17, 1944, where she provided artillery spotting in support of the Marines engaged upon the island.
The aircraft entered service at Marine Corps Air Station Quantico, and was assigned to Marine Observation Squadron 4 (VMO-4) in 1943. Today, she is based at Culpeper, Virginia, just 30 miles from where she entered service during World War II.
There are only three combat Sentinels known to have survived World War II that are still in airworthy condition. Our aircraft is a cornerstone of the Capital Wing's Warbird Rides Program, traveling to events in Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland.
