On November 21, 2017, Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Rt. Hon. Andrew Holness announced the designated Cockpit Country Protected Area (CCPA) boundary in Parliament. In his announcement, Prime Minister Holness said the area would comprise of approximately 74,726 hectares and will include existing forest reserves, significant hydrological and ecological features and cultural and heritage sites. Through the Advancing the Protection of Jamaica’s Cockpit Country project, JET continues to advocate for an expedited ground-truthing of the CCPA boundary, establishment of buffer zones and the involvement of civil society and local communities in management planning for the protected area.
Episode 1 in our new PSA series under the project highlights the importance of this rich ecological and cultural landscape, underscoring the need for Cockpit Country's protection.

Road block without a loaded g***k!

Inspired to be the change in his community, Kevaughn Ellis started a charity in his community of Allman Town, an inner-city community situated in Kingston.

The youth-led charity, called the Inner-city Development Youth Association, hosts several activities geared towards community cohesion in and around Allman Town.

One of the initiatives that has been implemented is ‘Track on Streets’. This is a back-to-school sports day, which is held on a main street in Allman Town, where all children who participate are given back-to-school materials and scholarship opportunities.

Now in its sixth staging, Ellis said that it has become a staple event in the community, attracting the support of community members and businesses in the area.

“Our mantra is ‘Road block without a loaded Glock’, so every year we block the road and the children compete,”

Persons interested in supporting the programmes may reach Ellis at [email protected] or 876- 398-2404.

This is heartbreaking! Incidents such as this has plagued Jamaica for years and still no resolution! When will we have enough? Rest In Peace Dujon.

Let the world see his face. I’ve been so sad 😭 I haven’t been sleeping, I keep staring into this picture and crying. Now I just wana support his mother (link in my bio). She was shot in her back but survived. They live opposite the Selassie school. A couple weeks ago, when we were fixing up the Garden at the Haile Selassie high school, Sebrena (mother of) and Dujon came to the school to help. They didn’t ask for any money, though not having a lot of money themselves.
Now our help is needed to pay for funeral costs. After a horrific attack Dujon was caught a bullet to the head, surgeons did what they could to save him, but the decision was made switch of the life support machine. Dujon was so young & an amazing footballer. But now because of senseless violence he isn’t with us anymore. I took this picture of him in the Garden of Selassie’s school, because I thought he favoured a man I’d photographed in Somalia. I asked him to smile, he said there isn’t anything to smile about round here. It’s almost like he knew... During the attack which was one of mistaken identity, his mother, uncle and Auntie were also shot. All have received surgery, so they now have bills they can’t afford & can't work. This is what happened, some murderers were looking for a man, thought they saw him sitting on the wall outside Dujon’s house, so they started firing after him, he ran into the house, Dujon tried to follow so he could escape the bullets and was struck on the way into his house, the murderers then went into his house and shot up the place. Realising they had got the wrong guy they left and now we are left with all this trauma. His family are heartbroken, as am I. He was so good at football, the best schools wanted to give him full scholarships in September, when he would’ve started going to high school. Now he will never get the chance. He was just 12 years old. Thank you for you support, donate what you can, the money will be used for funeral costs and to support his family. All money will go to his mother. Link in my bio, please share.

A stepmom could never love a child like the real mother can! That’s a damn lie lol.

Today my stepmom turns 40. She came into my life 19 years ago. Young. No experience as a mother. She was just a wife in love with my Dad. I’ve heard countless stories from others who had the evil stepmom but my Dad was blessed when be married her.

My biological mother left when I was 1 and I’ve never had a relationship with her and still don’t. My stepmom came in and showed me unconditional love. I was living in Jamaica and she petitioned for me to get my permanent residency in the United States and when I moved to America she was the best mother I could ask for. Her unwavering love and support helped me to love without limits and she treats my kids as her own grand babies - they don’t know any better lol. She is their grandma.

She is nurturing and loving. Happy Birthday to the woman God intended to be my mother. ❣️

Surround yourself with people who genuinely care about you.

Almost 5 years ago, I made the brave yet scary decision to start this organization. The mission was to impact at least one life while offering hope and opportunity to Jamaica’s most vulnerable residents. I thought maybe it was luck but now I’m understanding that it was God’s grace that enabled us to be a blessing to the thousands of children we have supported.

While there are many things we could have done differently, we have accomplished our mission and today we are closing our doors. This is not goodbye, but a see you again soon. We thank you for your support and encouragement over the years - it was truly appreciated.

Our Impact

$6M Invested in Education
6000 students impacted
24 Schools supported.
300 communities served.

We couldn’t have done it without you, our supporters! May you continue to serve and uplift those around you.

Take care!

Last night I went deep in prayer. If you’re going through your hurricane season then you will understand where I’m coming from. Seems like no matter how prepared you are the for the season the storm always destroy your home. But are we prepared enough?!

Lord knows this season was an emotional roller coaster and I started living in fear! Last night I took it all to God in prayer and he said to “STEP” so I’m stepping and leaving the rest of my walking up to God.

Step out of fear! God is with you!

Listen to the full podcast and I hope it gives you comfort. ❣️💕
