The mission of Pillar & Vine is to See…Feel…Act…
We see children and parents struggling to engage with each other appropriately and create healthy relationships. We recognize the struggle these families face and the resulting impact on the community. We feel for their struggle and have compassion for the life cycle and events that have brought them to where they are. Children deserve a safe and nurturing place to call home, and do best within a stable family environment. We act by providing services and supports to improve the family relationship. By partnering with our foster parents, biological families, communities and providers we come alongside those who are struggling and help them to improve their lives for the betterment of the children in crisis.

Success can look different for every child.
For a child in foster care, a win might look like:
❤️ Making it through a full day of school
❤️ Trying a new food
❤️ Asking for help instead of shutting down
❤️ Sleeping through the night
❤️ Joining a team or activity
❤️ Making a new friend

What may seem like a small moment to someone else can represent tremendous growth for a child.

Foster care can change the life of a child—but foster parents often tell us the experience changes them, too.

“Being a foster parent is the hardest thing I have ever done. It involves a collision of your heart, your woundings from childhood, who you are today, and who you want to be. This collision causes tears, pain, hopelessness, and frustration.

Week 3: My Behavior Tells a Story
A child's behavior is often a reflection of what they've experienced—not who they are.

Many children in foster care have faced food insecurity. Some foster parents are surprised to find food hidden in bedrooms or tucked away in backpacks.
But this behavior isn't about being sneaky or disobedient.
It's often a survival strategy.

When a child has experienced not knowing when their next meal would come, hiding food can provide a sense of security and control.

Healing takes time, patience, and understanding. Behind every behavior is a story, and every child deserves adults who are willing to look beyond the behavior to understand the need.

Week 2: I Still Love My Biological Family
One of the biggest misconceptions about foster care is that children stop loving their biological family.

The truth is, many children still deeply love and miss their parents, siblings, and relatives—even when it's not safe for them to live at home.

These feelings can be confusing. A child may feel happy in their foster home while also feeling sad, worried, or guilty about their biological family.

At Pillar & Vine, we encourage foster families to honor those feelings with compassion and understanding. Love isn't divided—it grows. Supporting a child's connection to the people they love can be an important part of their healing journey.

One resource we love is The Invisible String by Patrice Karst. This beautiful children's book reminds kids that the people we love are always connected by an invisible string, no matter how far apart they may be. It's a wonderful tool for helping children navigate separation and maintain hope.
