Troop 79 is part of the Greater Tampa Bay Area Council and the Timucua District located in Hillsborough County Florida. We are blessed to have Immanuel Lutheran Church as our charter organization. Throughout the history of Troop 79, Immanuel Lutheran has been a generous partner with us in Scouting as we help boys grow into young men. We are a youth-led Scout troop serving Brandon, FL. We focus on leadership, adventure, and community service.

🐾 New to Cub Scouts this year? Start here!

There's a lot to learn when your family first joins Cub Scouts, but that's part of the fun.

BSA Troop 79G, Greater Tampa Bay Area, Brandon, FL. and Troop 79 are hosting a Bobcat Boot Camp designed to help Cub Scouts learn some of the traditions and skills that connect Scouts of every age.

We'll work on the Scout Oath and Law, Cub Scout sign and salute, handshake, "Do Your Best," and other Bobcat activities, all while meeting other Cub Scouts and having fun.

And Bobcat isn't just for brand-new Scouts anymore. Under the current Cub Scout program, Bobcat is an Adventure completed each year, with requirements based on the Scout's grade.

💙 International Day of Charity ⚜️

Today is International Day of Charity, a great reminder of how important service is in Scouting.

The Scout Oath asks us to “help other people at all times,” and our Troop 79 Scouts have many opportunities throughout the year to put that into practice. From community service projects and conservation work to Eagle Scout projects and simply helping when there is a need, service is a big part of the Scouting experience.

Thank you to all of our Scouts, families, and leaders who give their time to help our community.

🧔‍♂️⚜️ Happy World Beard Day from Troop 79!

Scouting has taught generations of young people to Be Prepared—but apparently nobody prepared our Scouts for how long it takes to grow a proper campout beard. 😂

For now, they’ll have to leave the impressive facial hair to some of our adult leaders while they concentrate on the important stuff: camping, hiking, cooking, knots, leadership, and adventure.

So today, Troop 79 gives a special salute to the bearded leaders, dads, and Scouters who prove that sometimes the best piece of camping gear is already attached to your face. 🏕️🧔‍

🐾 Wait...didn't my Cub Scout already earn Bobcat?

If you've been around Cub Scouting for a while, you probably remember Bobcat as the first rank a new Cub Scout earned.

That's changed!

Under the current Cub Scout program, Bobcat is now a required Adventure that Cub Scouts complete each year, with age-appropriate requirements for Lion, Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos and Arrow of Light.

That's why Troop 79 and BSA Troop 79G, Greater Tampa Bay Area, Brandon, FL. are hosting our Bobcat Boot Camp on Saturday, September 19!

New to Cub Scouts? This is a great introduction to the Scout Oath and Law, Cub Scout traditions, the sign, salute and handshake, and what it means to "Do Your Best."

Been in Cub Scouts for years? Come knock out this year's Bobcat Adventure while having some fun with Scouts from around the area.

🏕️ Troop 79 Springs Campout Recap! 🌴💦

Troop 79 traded the usual campsite for some Florida spring water during our campout at Kelly Park/Rock Springs!

Our Scouts spent the weekend camping, cooking, working together, and enjoying one of Florida’s most unique outdoor experiences. Between time around camp and exploring the beautiful spring, there were plenty of opportunities for Scouts to practice the teamwork, independence, and outdoor skills that make a weekend in the woods worthwhile.

Of course, the highlight was getting into the crystal-clear water at Rock Springs! Nothing beats a Florida campout where cooling off is part of the adventure.

A big thank you to our adult leaders and volunteers who gave their time to make another Troop 79 campout possible—and to our Scouts for making it a great weekend!

🐶 Happy National Dog Day from Troop 79! 🐾

Today is the perfect day to celebrate our four-legged family members—and a great time to highlight the Dog Care Merit Badge! ⚜️

Scouts working on Dog Care learn that owning a dog is about much more than playing fetch. The merit badge covers responsible pet ownership, including:

🐕 Proper feeding and nutrition
🦴 Grooming and everyday care
🏥 Canine health and first aid
🎓 Training and obedience
🏡 Responsible dog ownership and safety
❤️ The commitment it takes to care for a dog

Already have a dog at home? National Dog Day might be the perfect excuse to spend some extra time with your pup—and maybe start working toward another merit badge!

Sometimes to beat the heat, the PLC will bring the adventure indoors! Troop 79 took sometime this month to do a little bowling. Thanks to Pin Chasers for working with the scouts to have a great experience. We got a little exercise, cheered each other on, and just took it easy. A great summer activity in the books!

⚜️ Troop 79 Summer Court of Honor

Troop 79 recently held our Summer Court of Honor.

A Court of Honor is an opportunity to recognize the hard work, dedication, and growth of our Scouts over the past several months. From rank advancements and merit badges to leadership positions and special recognitions, each achievement represents countless hours of learning, service, and perseverance.

We are especially proud to announce that Troop 79 was recognized as an Honor Troop and received the Scouting Traditions Award at summer camp. These honors reflect the commitment of our Scouts and leaders to teamwork, Scout spirit, and carrying on the traditions that make Scouting such a meaningful experience.

Congratulations to every Scout who was recognized this evening. Your accomplishments are something to be proud of, and we look forward to seeing what you'll achieve next.

A heartfelt thank you to our Scoutmasters, committee members, volunteers, and families for the encouragement and support you provide throughout the year. Scouting is truly a team effort, and nights like tonight remind us how strong the Troop 79 family is.

This Independence Day is especially meaningful as our nation begins celebrating the Semiquincentennial—America's 250th birthday. For two and a half centuries, the ideals of liberty, service, and citizenship have united generations of Americans.

As Scouts, we are proud to honor those values through community service, leadership, outdoor adventure, and a commitment to the Scout Oath and Scout Law. We remember the sacrifices made by those who secured our freedom and by the countless men and women who have defended it ever since.

Whether you're spending the day with family, attending a parade, enjoying a barbecue, or watching fireworks, we hope you'll also take a moment to reflect on what it means to be an active and engaged citizen.

From all of us at Troop 79, we wish you a safe, happy, and memorable Independence Day.

Happy Fourth of July, and here's to celebrating 250 years of the United States of America! 🇺🇸
