Happy Scout Sunday from Troop 79! ⛪⚜️

Scout Sunday has been observed for over a century as a time for Scouts to worship with their faith communities and recognize the important partnership between Scouting and chartered organizations.

Today we’re grateful for the churches and community partners who support youth leadership, service, and character development.

A Scout is Reverent.

Groundhog Day, observed each year on February 2, traces its roots to early European weather folklore brought to North America by German settlers in the 1800s. Long before modern forecasting, people looked to nature for clues about the changing seasons.

This tradition connects well to Benjamin Franklin, who famously published weather observations and seasonal wisdom in Poor Richard’s Almanack. Franklin believed that careful observation of the natural world helped people prepare for what lay ahead.

In Scouting, we carry that same spirit forward. Scouts learn to observe, plan, and adapt—whether it’s reading the weather, preparing for a campout, or facing life’s challenges. No matter what the groundhog predicts, Scouts are always Be Prepared. ⚜️

Today we celebrate National Inspire Your Heart with Art Day, a reminder that creativity helps us express ideas, emotions, and values in powerful ways. Art—whether through drawing, music, storytelling, or design—encourages reflection, empathy, and imagination.

In Scouting, creativity plays an important role in communication, problem-solving, and leadership. When Scouts create and appreciate art, they learn to see the world from different perspectives and to express themselves with confidence and respect.

Today, we encourage our Scouts to explore creativity, appreciate the art around them, and let it inspire positive action in their lives and communities. ⚜️

Lunar New Year is celebrated by millions of people around the world and marks the beginning of a new year based on the lunar calendar. Traditions often focus on family, gratitude, renewal, and honoring ancestors—values that encourage reflection on where we’ve been and how we move forward.

In Scouting, we are reminded that “A Scout is Reverent.” This means respecting the beliefs, traditions, and cultures of others, and recognizing that many people express reverence in different ways. Learning about celebrations like Lunar New Year helps our Scouts grow in understanding, empathy, and respect for the diverse world around them.

As the new lunar year begins, it’s a good moment to reflect, show gratitude, and recommit ourselves to living the Scout Oath and Law each day. ⚜️

🙃 Opposite Day! 🔄

Today is Opposite Day, so… everything we say is definitely wrong 😄
Scouts don’t work as a team.
The outdoors isn’t fun.
And learning new skills is totally boring.

Okay… now that we’ve done the opposite, here’s the truth:
Scouting is about teamwork, adventure, learning, and having fun—sometimes even seeing things from a whole new perspective.

Happy Opposite Day! Keep thinking creatively and looking at the world from every angle. ⚜️🙃

🧹🥾 Trail Trash-Bag Trek at McIntosh Preserve 🌿

Our Scouts put service into action during a Trail Trash-Bag Trek at McIntosh Preserve, hiking the trails in Hillsborough County, Florida Government while collecting litter to help keep this beautiful preserve clean and accessible for everyone.

This project combined outdoor activity with conservation, reminding our Scouts that caring for the outdoors is an important responsibility. With teamwork, perseverance, and a shared commitment to service, they made a visible impact on the trails and the community.

Well done, Scouts—thank you for helping leave the outdoors better than you found it. ⚜️

🎒 Backpacking Adventure at Myakka River State Park 🌾

Our Scouts recently took on a true backpacking challenge at Myakka River State Park, carrying everything they needed as they hiked miles across Florida prairie, set up camp, and lived self-sufficiently in the outdoors.

From pacing themselves on the trail to choosing campsites and working together at camp, this trip pushed our Scouts to practice endurance, teamwork, and resilience. Backpacking experiences like this build confidence and reinforce the importance of preparation, cooperation, and respect for nature.

Well done, Scouts—another adventure completed and another set of skills earned for the trail ahead. ⚜️

Today we’re celebrating National Cheese Lovers Day—a day that pairs perfectly with camp cooking, trail snacks, and good company.

From grilled cheese around the camp stove to cheesy meals shared after a long day outdoors, food has a way of bringing Scouts together. Cooking and sharing meals teaches teamwork, responsibility, and appreciation—skills that last far longer than the leftovers.

What’s your favorite cheese for camping or cooking?
Drop it in the comments—cheddar, mozzarella, pepper jack, or something adventurous? 😄

Happy Cheese Lovers Day! ⚜️🧀

🛠️ Service in Action ⚜️

A few weeks back, Scouts from Troop 79B and Troop 79G came together for a joint service project at our chartered church, Immanuel Lutheran Church Brandon, FL , working side by side to lay pavers and improve a shared community space.

Through teamwork, communication, and a lot of hard work, our Scouts turned effort into impact—demonstrating what it means to serve others and give back to the organizations that support Scouting. Projects like this help our Scouts build practical skills, leadership, and a deeper understanding of service above self.

Thank you to all the Scouts and leaders who made this project a success. Together, we made a difference.

Today we reflect on the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., whose life demonstrated the power of leadership rooted in service, courage, and compassion.

Dr. King showed that meaningful change comes from serving others, standing up for what is right, and leading with integrity—even when it is difficult. His example reminds us that leadership is not about position, but about action, responsibility, and making a positive difference in our communities.

On this day of remembrance, we encourage reflection on how each of us can lead through service and help build a more just and caring world. ⚜️
