NICA mourns the passing of Dale Smith, CCE (September 21, 1951 – September 28, 2026), a longtime NICA member whose contributions, friendship, and generous spirit left a lasting impact on our Industry and Community.
Dale served on NICA’s West Council for six years, where he was a dedicated leader, organizer, and enthusiastic supporter of our Industry. He organized and participated in many successful golf tournaments benefiting the San Diego County Fair and LA County Fair, bringing people together through camaraderie and a shared commitment to giving back.
Dale also suggested the idea for NICA’s Good Neighbor Award and led the committee that developed this meaningful recognition, helping establish a lasting way to honor those who make a positive difference in the communities where we work. In 2016, Dale was recognized as a CCE (Certified Concessionaire Executive) recipient, reflecting his dedication and contributions to the fair industry.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dale will be remembered for his warm smile, quick wit, generous heart, love of family, and adventurous spirit. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, he lived a life grounded in faith, hard work, and kindness.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to Dale’s wife, Celia, his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. We are grateful for his years of service, leadership, friendship, and the legacy he leaves within the NICA family.
Dale, thank you for the miles traveled, the friendships made, and the difference you made. You will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
