Last Sunday, on May 31st, the SD spring Turkey Season came to a close. I wanted to give a shout out to SD Game, Fish and Parks’ Mentored hunting program and to Ernie Tweet!

The mentored hunting program is introducing lots of youth to the outdoors and creating memories. My hope is each of these young hunters becomes a “conservationist”.

Now to Ernie! He puts in so many hours scouting and helping these youth have an enjoyable experience. But in addition he is always offering to help in the work we do here to improve our natural resources….providing better habitat. Thanks Ernie for all you do!

Last few days have been above normal temperatures. Wednesday was a day with a lot clear skies and bright sunshine that had me thinking about finding some shade. I grabbed my soil thermometer and wanted to check soil temps in several different land uses and forms of management. Here is what I found temps at a 2 inch depth.
