Hosted by CHIEF RED JACKET CHAPTER DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION

Our nation’s big birthday year has finally arrived! This milestone has been called by many names—Semiquincentennial, Bisesquicentennial, Sestercentennial, America250, or the Quarter Millennium. Whatever name one chooses, this historic moment gives us the opportunity to celebrate the greatness of our nation—a democratic republic that has endured longer than any other of its kind.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at the Brandon Public Library on Monday, February 23, at 11:00 a.m. If you are unable to attend the ribbon cutting please visit any day through Friday, February 27. The hours are 11:00 am to 6:00 pm (except Tuesday will close at 4:00 pm.)

The exhibit consists of twelve panels arranged in thematic pairs, highlighting topics raised by the individuals featured in the exhibition. These include themes such as Choosing Sides, On the Front Lines, and Freedom or Slavery. In addition, three touchscreen displays complement the panels: one focuses on the featured individuals, another highlights places connected to their stories that can still be visited today, and a third includes animated maps showing the progression of the Revolutionary War as battles unfolded across the continent.

Some of our DAR Service for Veterans Committee packed Christmas gift bags for Veterans at G.V.(Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center 💖

We purchased red delicious apples, Granny Smith apples and naval oranges from Berry’s Fruit Stand. Berry’s graciously donated a box of bananas for our Veterans.

Pat Dampier, Cecilia James, and Susan Newton met Jacob Carraway, VA CDCE Asst Chief and a veteran for the delivery of the gift bags.

Pat Dampier had collected and donated a huge amount of items for homeless Veterans and many items for the Community Living Center (formerly the nursing home) that were delivered at the same time.

WREATH DAY AT OLD BRANDON CEMETERY
Despite a hard and unexpected rainstorm at exactly 11:00 a.m., Chief Red Jacket Chapter, National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), held its fifth annual Wreaths Across America Day ceremony on December 13, 2025, at Old Brandon Cemetery. Chief Red Jacket Chapter thanked the City of Brandon, Brandon Garden Club, Inc., Mississippi National Guard, and the 113th Military Police Company for their support. After the ceremony, attendees carrying umbrellas, and some without, laid wreaths in the pouring rain on the graves of veterans.

Participants in the ceremony were Madeline Waggoner, Chapter Regent; Lindsey Simon, Honorary Chapter Regent, Wreaths Across America Chapter Chair; Meredith Green, who sang the National Anthem; speaker Colonel (Ret.) Jody Michael “Mike” Smith, Chief of Preparedness and Response, MEMA; General Harold Cross, representing U. S. Congressman Michael Guest; 113thMilitary Police Company members Dotson, Brown, Griffin, Bufkin, and Boyd; Robin Crawford, who played taps; and Raymond Simon, son of Lindsey and Jonathan Simon, who gave the Invocation and Benediction.

Chief Red Jacket DAR Chapter joins Wreaths Across America in thanking the communities, dedicated volunteers, generous sponsors, essential truck drivers, local officials, and our friends in the media for coming together in unity and support for those who have protected our freedom. Each person has played an important part in the mission to Remember the fallen, Honor those that serve and their families, and Teach the next generation the value of freedom.
