Have you ever been present as someone sacrificed their most prized possession for the good of someone else? Read here and you will say yes, I have!

Saint Augustine is probably one of the best known saints and early Church Fathers and certainly the most oft-quoted…“my heart is restless until it rests in thee.” Augustine hits upon what he realizes is our deepest desire in this life—that every human person is hard-wired to know God.

That’s what missionaries endeavor to do in their work. Through great sacrifice and with few resources, missionaries bring the Catholic faith to parts of the world where Jesus might not be known otherwise, or where the church is poor and perhaps not firmly rooted, or where the church is persecuted. So, if we agree with Augustine that every person is hard-wired to know God, the Church must go to the ends of the earth to find souls and bring Jesus to them in Word and Sacrament.

"Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it." Matthew 16:17-18

Staff at the Archdiocese of Boston's Pastoral Center joined the Pontifical Mission Societies and gave up lunch hour (some gave up a few lunch hours!) to help make World Mission Rosaries for Archbishop Sheen’s beatification. This is part of an effort, together with volunteers from all over the country, to make 75,000 World Mission Rosaries that will be handed out at Sheen’s beatification in St. Louis on September 24th.
