It is with a broken heart that I share the news that twice this month, our Golden chain has been broken. Brother Fraser N. McKinnon Jr. passed away on Sunday November 5th and was laid to rest on Monday November 13th … then heartbreakingly his wife of fifty-one years Sister Sandra L. (Hutchins) McKinnon passed away on Thursday morning November 23rd.

Fraser was a 32 degree Master Mason with Prospect Lodge, a member of Scottish Rite, a Past Patron of Eastern Star in both Contentment chapter in Westwood and Wisteria chapter in Needham, and a former board member and Dad Advisor of Needham assembly no. 57 International Order of Rainbow for Girls.

Sandra was a 30 year member and five time Past Matron of Eastern Star, serving in the East for Wisteria chapter in Needham three times and twice for Contentment chapter in Westwood, before joining Braintree Chapter through consolidation. She is a former Board member and Mother Advisor for Needham assembly no. 57, International Order of Rainbow for Girls; a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of Scot’s Charitable Society; as well as a Past President of the Rosalie Rebekah Lodge, of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in Medway.

Today we honor Sister Sandra with the Eastern Star Member Service at her wake, being held at the Folsom funeral home in Westwood at 6pm. Her funeral will be held tomorrow morning at the first Baptist Church in Westwood.

Both obituaries can be found on the funeral home website at folsomfuneral.com or at legacy.com

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of our late Sister and Brother.

This weekend I traveled to New Haven, CT for my first OES exchange, which I enjoyed very much. If I’m being honest though, I have to admit that having never been to an exchange before, I truly had no idea what I was getting myself into, nor how this exchange differs from any other exchange. Of course I knew that I would have the opportunity to meet and socialize with members from other states, but for me it went far beyond that as I conversed with kindred souls. We sat for hours talking about things big and small, and if we didn’t need sleep for the next day, probably would have stayed up all night talking. Before the event was over, contact information was exchanged, and hopes of seeing each other in our travels was expressed.
The exchange hosts and planning committees exceeded my wildest expectations, as I had the rare opportunity to bear witness to the nearly forgotten Queen of the South Degree, which to be honest blew me away; those performing the degree had me on the edge of my seat.
Thank you to the WGMs and WGPs of CT, MA, NH, and the AGM and AGP of RI (for 2 more weeks until their grand chapter sessions), as well as the members of Ephraim Kirby chapter #75; for such a great exchange.
