Upcoming Minnesota Fi****ms Deer Season - Important Reminders

Whether walking, jogging, or riding along the Cuyuna Lakes State Trail, we recommend wearing blaze orange apparel during all fall hunting seasons.

Specific to fi****ms deer season, in our permit area (604) for 2025, deer season extends from Saturday, November 9 through Sunday, November 23. During this period, we suggest that at minimum you cover your entire upper body (including hat) with blaze orange.

For clarity, please note that the paved Cuyuna Lakes State Trail is open for your enjoyment year-round, including during all hunting seasons. However, natural surface mountain bike trails within the adjacent Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area (CCSRA) are officially CLOSED throughout fi****ms deer season.

Remember, the Cuyuna Lakes State Trail is the paved trail from Riverton to Deerwood. Mountain bike trails are by definition, natural surface only (never paved). Be safe and enjoy your November!

Hennies Hill Challenge – August 20th at Mount Ski Gull šŸšµā€ā™€ļø

On August 20th, the Cuyuna Lakes High School Mt Bike Team athletes and coaches—will push themselves for 2 hours, climbing as many laps as they can in memory of former teammate Jack Hennies.

Proceeds will support the team, and this year a portion will also benefit the Cuyuna Lakes Trail Association (CLTA) to help build a safe, direct trail connection to the Sagamore Unit—supporting not only our athletes, but the entire community.

The Cuyuna Ecosystem

Love this updated wayfinding sign highlighting the Cuyuna Lakes State Trail and its importance as a navigational corridor through much of the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area. You can find this sign alongside the Cuyuna Lakes State Trail at the Croft Mine parking area, just north of Crosby, Minnesota.

Shout-out to MN DNR's Department of Parks and Trails (design and installation), Hallett Trust (matching funds) and past Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Trails president Aaron W Hautala (long-term advocacy).

Early signs of the winter-time fun to come!

Please use caution as we await a good snow base for all the popular winter-time activities the Cuyuna Lakes State Trail is known for. We see ample opportunities for cross-country skiing, fat tire biking, snowshoeing and more, dead ahead!

Even during shoulder seasons like this, the Cuyuna Lakes State Trail is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Important reminders regarding Minnesota fi****ms deer season!

Paved!

We are pleased to announce that as-of yesterday, October 29, all 9.1 miles of the Cuyuna Lakes State Trail are fully open. The recent repaving project of a heavily used 1.4-mile section between County Road 30 (Trommald Road) on the west and Highway 6 on the east is nearly complete. While some shoulder work remains, paving is finished, and this section (along with the entirety of the Cuyuna Lakes State Trail) is open for business.

We encourage you to get out and enjoy this silky-smooth new section. Fully 10’ wide, this surface is indicative of the quality and accessibility of all Minnesota State Trails.

Remember, the Cuyuna Lakes State Trail is always paved. The nearby natural surface single-track mountain bike trails are not.

Shout-out to Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for this welcome upgrade and an on-time completion!
