It’s that time! Please renew your 2026 NLLA Membership. New members can join as well. We are now accepting payment online via Credit Card for dues, AIS contributions, and Walleye fund contributions.

Go to northlong.org and follow the link on the home page.

Your membership and AIS contributions fund our Curly Leaf and Milfoil control, cameras at the 371 and Merrifield accesses, water quality monitoring, the annual meeting/picnic, community building events for our members, and additional water craft inspections. Your Walleye Fund contributions will go directly to additional stocking and/or habitat. The board and other committed NLLA members are all volunteers.

Our ability to continue to do the work that we do requires a strong membership base. And our influence is directly related to both the number of our members and the percentage of North Long Lake property owners we represent.

Payments will be made through Paypal’s secure payment website; the association will not have access to your credit card information. You will receive a receipt from Paypal via email and a confirmation from the association.

Of course we will still accept payments via check. Mail your check to North Long Lake Association, PO Box 54, Merrifield, MN 56465. If paying by check, please print and include this form:

Thank you for your continued support. And thank you for making the health of our lake a priority.

With the recent snowfall, it’s a great time to announce our North Long Lake winter photo gallery. Your photos will be posted on our website. Email your photos to [email protected] as an attachment with up to 5 photos. Please include your name in the email.

It’s not a contest: no prizes, no awards, no snooty editor judging your photos. Just a way to share the beauty and fun of winter on the lake with our friends and neighbors.

But there are still some rules:
• All submissions must be scenes on or around North Long Lake taken this winter season (we’ll use November 1 as the start).
• File formats accepted include jpeg, png, webp (these are common photo formats). Sorry, no videos. Photos must be sent as an attachment to the email, not “inline” with the email message.
• Family friendly images. No politics. No AI generated or enhanced photos.
• You can send multiple emails, but a maximum of 5 photos total.
• You give the NLLA permission to use photos on the NLLA website and other NLLA communications.

Thanks to Mark Morris for sending this video of a lone pelican soaring over the Merrifield bay. Did you know a group of pelicans can go by several names depending on what they are doing including a pod, scoop, pouch, brief, or squadron. The best term can depend on their behavior; for instance, "squadron" is used when they fly in formation, while "rookery" refers to their nesting sites. A “raft” is a group of pelicans floating on the surface of the lake.
