When the Civil War ended, most Confederate leaders surrendered. 🤠
Texas Governor Pendleton Murrah did something else entirely.

Rather than face Union occupation, Murrah gathered a desperate column of Confederate officers, soldiers, and officials and rode south through the brutal South Texas brush country in the summer of 1865.

Their destination: Mexico.

It became known as the "Confederados" exodus, and Murrah was among the most prominent men to make the ride. He crossed the Rio Grande into Maximilian's Mexico, broken in health and spirit, and died in Monterrey just weeks later, never setting foot in Texas again.

Most Texans have never heard this story. But it happened, and it says everything about the chaos and collapse that followed the fall of the Confederacy in the Lone Star State. 🌟

Share this with someone who loves Texas history — most people have never heard this one.

A DRT Honor Day!

April 21, 1836 — a day that changed Texas forever.

On this day, Texan forces led by General Sam Houston shocked the world at the Battle of San Jacinto. Facing a Mexican army of around 1,200 under General Santa Anna, the Texans made a bold and unexpected move… attacking in the middle of the afternoon during siesta time.

Hidden by trees and rising ground, the Texan army advanced undetected—then charged.
“Remember the Alamo!”
“Remember Goliad!”

In just 18 minutes… it was over.
The outcome was staggering:
• 630 Mexican soldiers killed
• 730 captured
• Only 9 Texans lost their lives, with about 30 wounded

That decisive victory secured Texas’ independence and changed the course of history.
The Alamo may have fallen… but San Jacinto lit the fire that made Texas free.

Remember this day.

Happy St Patrick’s Day! ☘️ ‘The Irish came to Texas in the early 1800s. San Patricio & Refugio, towns near Corpus Christi, were the first Irish settlements in Texas. 12 Irishmen died at the Alamo, 14 were with Fannin at Goliad & about 100 fought with Sam Houston at San Jacinto!’ ❤️
