Celebrating National Superintendents Day – November 14 🎉
Brady ISD would like to take a moment to spotlight our leaders on National Superintendents Day: Dr. Hector Martinez, Superintendent of Brady ISD, and Richard Sweaney, Assistant Superintendent. We appreciate all they do every day to support our students, staff, and community.
We asked them a few questions about their work in education and here is what they have to say:
Thank you, Dr. Martinez and Mr. Sweaney, for your dedication, leadership, and commitment to making Brady ISD the best it can be!
DR. HECTOR MARTINEZ
Supt. Brady ISD
What is your “why” behind serving in education?
My “why” behind serving in education is simple: it’s about our students and their success in Brady ISD. Student success encompasses academics, athletics, the arts, and every opportunity that helps them grow and thrive. As superintendent, I am committed to ensuring every decision supports the best outcomes for our students. I believe that when we invest in their potential, we strengthen our schools and our community. I am truly fortunate to serve in the greatest profession, one that allows me to make a lasting difference in the lives of students every day.
Was there a specific moment or person that influenced your decision to lead in education?
There is one person in my educational journey who has been both a teacher and mentor, profoundly influencing my path as an educational leader. Her name is Laura Austin. She was my high school teacher and someone who saw potential in me before I saw it in myself. Laura believed in me and guided me through each stage of my career. She helped me secure my first teaching position, encouraged me to pursue a master’s degree in education, and continued to mentor me as I earned my Doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin. Her support and belief in my abilities have shaped the leader I am today.
What do you hope to accomplish for the students and community of Brady and Brady ISD?
I aim to ensure that our academic and extracurricular programs remain strong and lead to positive student outcomes. Ultimately, my goal is for these programs to have a lasting impact on students for years to come.
