On Sunday, May 17, at the Bradley Bourbonnais Community High School Scholarship Award Ceremony, President of the Bourbonnais VFW Auxiliary, Wayne C. Burgess was honored to present Alexis McCullough with the Department of Illinois VFW Eagle Scout of the Year Award.

The VFW Scout of the Year Award is an annual scholarship competition that honors scouts who demonstrate leadership, patriotism, citizenship, service, and a sincere love for our country.

It is young leaders like Alexis who give us hope and confidence for the future of our communities and our nation.

We are proud to present Alexis with this plaque and scholarship in recognition of her outstanding leadership, service, patriotism, and dedication to others.

Congratulations Alexis!

URGENT CALL TO ACTION - Please Read and Share

Next Tuesday, May 19th at 10:00 AM, Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery will hold a service for Harry Levin, an unclaimed WWII Army Veteran with no known family.

Harry served our nation during World War II, answering the call when America needed him most. Now, as he is laid to rest, we have the opportunity to ensure he is not forgotten - that he receives the honor and recognition he deserves.

We are asking our community, veterans, and patriots to fill the shelter seats and stand in support of this WWII hero. Let's show Harry Levin that his service mattered, that his sacrifice is remembered, and that he is not alone.

No WWII veteran should be laid to rest without a proper farewell. Please attend if you can and share this post widely. Let's give Harry the sendoff a hero deserves.

Our veterans stood for us, now itโ€™s our turn to stand for them.

For more than 30 years, the Momence Honor Guard has provided a powerful and dignified final tribute to those who served our country. Their commitment ensures no veteran is laid to rest without the honor theyโ€™ve earned. Soon, we have a chance to support them in return.

Join us on Thursday, April 30 from 4:00โ€“9:00 PM at Chicago Dough Pizza for a meaningful night out. Whether youโ€™re dining in with family or grabbing carryout, 20% of all sales will go directly toward new uniforms for Honor Guard members.

Enjoy great food while making a real difference in preserving this important tradition.

A special thank you to the Kankakee County Republican Womenโ€™s Organization for helping make this event possible.

Bring your friends, bring your family and be part of something that truly matters. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Support for our Emergency Response Fund is being put to work! ๐Ÿ”†

Thanks to support from our local community, $150,000 has now been granted to KCCSI - Kankakee County Community Services, Inc to assist us in providing immediate support for those impacted by the March 10th storm, including:
โ€ข Short-term housing vouchers for displaced families
โ€ข Rent & mortgage assistance for families struggling to afford repairs
โ€ข Auto repair assistance for Kankakee County families whose vehicles sustained damage greater than what insurance would cover.

If you were impacted, please contact KCCSI to apply: ๐Ÿ“ž (815) 933-7883

This Fund is a joint effort of United Way and the Community Foundation of Kankakee River Valley and was designed to move quickly - helping individuals and families whose homes or vehicles were damaged begin taking their next steps toward stability.

This is just our first step, but there's so much more to come. We are still accepting new applications from local 501c(3) nonprofits that are willing to help us tackle other aspects of our community's rebuilding process. We have A LOT to do. ๐Ÿ”จ Please contact our office with any questions: 815-932-7476

Letโ€™s keep showing up for our neighbors as recovery continues. ๐Ÿ’™ If you want to help us grow the impact of the Emergency Response Fund, consider a gift today at: www.myunitedway.org/disaster
