BBCHS Ironclad Robotics Review:
Written By Cameron Gross (Sophomore, FRC member)
Ironclad Robotics is a high school robotics program that is driven to advance the principles of STEM within our community and grant incredible opportunities to our students. We are affiliated with BBCHS and are proud to represent our high school and community as a whole. Within our program, students are exposed to real-world engineering and entrepreneurship experiences that act as a channel for them to express their creativity and enhance their individualism. Even though everyone brings something new to the table, our program acts as a collaborative environment to allow everyone's unique talents to shine through in order to create sturdy and sophisticated robots.
Our program is divided into two specific teams: FRC (First Robotics Competition) and FTC (First Tech Challenge). The FRC team focuses on building industrial sized robots with an unlimited number of participants while the FTC team focuses on building a much smaller robot with a limited number of participants. In addition, the FRC and FTC teams have different goals in mind when building their robots to fit the objectives of their respective games each year.
FTC’s next event is on November 9th, 2024 at BBCHS from 9am-1pm. FTC will be competing in their 2024-2025 game titled “Into the Deep.” This season’s theme has an underwater mining aspect to the game. Our team is very confident going into the season since we have built two functioning robots. With our strong build and code team, we are on track to have an amazing season!
FRC’s most recent event was on October 26th, 2024 in Tremont, Illinois. In this offseason competition, we competed in last year’s game titled, “Crescendo.” Overall, our team ended up securing third place out of 36 teams. FRC will kick off their new competition season on January 4th, 2025. On this day, FRC’s upcoming game titled “Reefscape” will be revealed. Starting on kickoff day, we will have approximately six weeks to design, build, code, and drive their new robot. Along with FTC, FRC is aspiring to have an amazon season and hopes to rank highly in their regional competitions this spring.
