We are pleased to announce that the Brigade is now operational and ready to respond to emergencies in Oak Shores to assist SLO County FD’s response to our rural community. Yesterday we conducted a refresher medical training, reviewed radio protocols and distributed radio pagers so our volunteers can be dispatched to emergency calls. Thank you to our volunteers and donors for helping us transform this vision into reality.

Our brand new 2024 RAM 3500 4WD brush truck is ready to ship from the manufacturer. It has a 300 gallon water tank, 20HP Honda electric start pump, 150’ hose reel, 9,000 lbs bumper winch, and 8’ utility boxes to hold our tools and medical equipment. The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning (RFW) for large sections of SoCal, including all areas around Lake Nacimiento. A RFW means critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. Residents in wildland interfaces should be prepared to evacuate if a wildfire breaks out.

The Oak Shores Volunteer Fire & Medical Brigade held a very successful BBQ fundraiser over the Labor Day weekend. We served 200 Tri-tip dinners, held a silent auction, 50/50 raffle and enjoyed live music. Thank you to Oak Shores Community Recreation and Events for organizing this amazing event!

Twelve Brigade volunteers completed a 24-hour Public Safety First Aid course this past Friday-Sunday, which included treating medical and trauma patients, CPR/AED, cervical spine immobilization, childbirth, gunshot wounds, behavioral emergencies, and opioid overdosage. Oak Shores Code Enforcement also participated in this medical training to be cross-trained with Brigade volunteers. This training satisfies Title 22 requirements for our volunteers to become recognized as
PSFA Responders by SLO County EMS Agency.

PG&E has announced a PSPS for the entire Oak Shores community starting at 10:30 am on 7/5 until 10:30 am on 7/7. Prepare now and limit physical activity outdoors, hydrate and keep your refrigerated food in ice coolers. Be prepared for cell phone service interruptions. Use generators outdoors in well ventilated spaces and never indoors or in a garage where carbon monoxide can cause serious bodily injury or death.
