We are happy to share that the 2026 Andrew Pingie Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Brayden Babcock, a Port Allegany senior who is attending Alfred State College to pursue welding! 👨🏻‍🏭✨

The Andrew Pingie Memorial Scholarship fund was established by Andy’s two daughters, Sarah and Faith, following his passing on December 1, 2021 from glioblastoma brain cancer at age 47. After graduating from Bradford High School in 1992, Andy was employed with Allegheny Bradford Forest Products and ended his career working at Dresser Manufacturing as a welder in Bradford. He was also a self-taught fabricator of wrought iron and many of his creations and designs are admired at many home and businesses within the area.

This scholarship is awarded to a deserving student or adult learner that resides in either Cattaraugus or McKean County who shares the same passions and values as Andy and who plans to pursue a degree or certification in a post-secondary technical field. This is our third year giving a scholarship, which wouldn’t be possible without the generous donations and support from those who knew and loved him.

When reviewing Brayden’s application, we couldn’t help but think of our dad and couldn’t think of a more deserving student for this scholarship. We were truly impressed with his accomplishments, goals and his values. Congratulations, Brayden! We wish you the best as you step into this next chapter! 🏈🎓

May is Brain Cancer Awareness Month and we in loving memory of our Dad, Andy Pingie, who passed away after a long fought battle with Glioblastoma Brain Cancer. 🧠🩶

Glioblastoma is an aggressive and fast-growing type of brain cancer that arises from supportive cells in the brain called glial cells. It is the most common malignant primary brain tumor in adults. This cancer is particularly challenging because it grows and spreads quickly within the brain, making it difficult to treat. Despite advances in surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy, glioblastoma remains a serious diagnosis, highlighting the importance of ongoing research and awareness efforts. Andy was diagnosed in 2018 and passed away in 2021 at age 47. He was originally given 6-8 months.

To honor his legacy, we established the Andrew Pingie Memorial Scholarship Fund. For the last three years, we have been able to award a deserving high school student, pursing a field in a trades program that shares the same passions and values as our dad, with a $500 scholarship.

This year for Go Gray In May, we are raising money to fund another scholarship, and to support future scholarships, by raffling a Mother’s Day basket. This basket has a value of over $800 and includes many donated items from local businesses and the generosity of others (see items listed on the image below).

The raffle will be open from Friday May 1st to Thursday May 14th. The winner will be drawn on Friday May 15th! All proceeds will be donated to the McKean County Community Foundation for the Andrew Pingie Memorial Scholarship Fund. 🧠🩶

April is National Welding Month 🧑🏻‍🏭🔥

This month holds a special place in our hearts as we honor the legacy of a man who took great pride in his work as a welder. Welding wasn’t just a job to him, it was a craft, a skill and a way to build something lasting with his own two hands.

Through this scholarship, we continue his passion by supporting students and adult learners who are pursuing careers in the trades - especially welding. These hardworking individuals represent the future of skilled trades, and we are proud to help them forge their own paths.

By donating to the scholarship fund, you’re helping provide opportunities, tools and education to the next generation of skilled workers. Every contribution, big or small, helps keep his passion alive and supports someone chasing their dreams.
