We want to take a moment to recognize our own LT Hayden Lufkin for his hard work, training, and dedication to our community over the last few months.

This past Saturday, Hayden completed his skills evaluation for a pro board certification for firefighter 1+2. This comes at the end of months of hard work both online and in person. The very next day he reported in to his first day of an EMT Basic class. All while helping run trainings and being one of the most active members, coming to the majority of fire and EMS calls.

Hayden is already basic fire certified, as well as an EMR. We are very happy to see him continue his training and hope to see him continue even further.

Fun facts- Hayden has been with us since 2018, starting as a JR firefighter. He has been know for years now as "sasquach" by our crew. Partly because he is very tall, but also because he is notoriously hard to get a picture of.

Mohawk stream fire update:

Crews have returned to the area the last 3 days finding hot spots that have reignited causing the whole area to smoke. Maine forest service will be returning today to fly a thermal drone and pinpoint any remaining hot spots, an we will have a crew made up of firefighters from Bradford as well as mutual aid to continue mop up in the area. Uneven terrain, inacessabilty, the lack of water, and the ground composition make this fire very difficult.

We are all hopeful the forecasted rain thursday comes so we can be done this fire once and for all.

Mohawk Stream Fire

On July 21st, 2026, Bradford Fire was notified by the Maine Forest Service of smoke from a remote part of Bradford located off the isthmus trail, West of Route 221, which was spotted by aircraft. After closer investigation, it was found that approximately 3 acres of dense brush and cedar swamp had been burning for some time. On the morning of the 22nd, A crew of 4 went in via side by side to the area in question. There was a trail leading into the area of the fire, but most of the access was on foot. The initial crew set up a portable pump and hand lines, and began trying to get the fire out with water and hand tools. After seeing the size of the area that was still smoldering and full of hotspots, mutual aid resources were requested to assist with extinguishment. Crews from multiple agencies were there into the evening of the first day, and at the end of the first day the fire was roughly 70% contained. On July 23rd, crews from Bradford as well as even more mutual aid assembled to continue overhauling the area, and worked a full day on the second day as well. On July 24th, the Maine Forest service piloted a drone with thermal capabilities over the area and was still showing hotspots, and Bradford Fire will be sending a crew in to continue to monitor the situation,but we consider the fire completely under control at this time.
