Today we celebrate the 10 year anniversary of Senior Hearts Rescue & Renewal.
Thank you to all our donors, fosters, adopters, veterinary partners, volunteers, grooming partners, board members, and more that have assisted us in rescuing nearly 1,100 senior dogs. Because of you, we have been able to transform and make an extraordinary difference in the lives of these senior dogs and give them a high quality rest of life
We remember our late Daphne, a black 16yr young min pin that was the first dog we rescued 10 years ago today. Her owner had passed and Daphne was home alone. We transformed her medically, she got adopted, and led a happy and loved life for several more years.
Our most recent rescue is Matlock, the 1,078th dog that has entered into the care and ownership of Senior Hearts.
Matlock is our pug in the photo. He is 12yrs young and came to us due to his elderly owner being critically ill. One of our veterinary partners referred the family to us.
Matlock had been home alone with family members coming in to care for him. We are grateful the family stepped up to help him and reached out to us.
Thank you Kathy for assisting on intake and getting our new boy cleaned up!
Matlock arrived with heart medication and the usual long list of medical needs. We took him to the vet yesterday.
Matlock has:
severe arthritis in both back legs
dry eyes
infected paws on all four feet
fatty masses
infected and painful teeth
We have already scheduled a dental surgery for Matlock. Our vet has submitted a referral to Cardiology for an echocardiogram so we can ensure Matlock's heart receives the best care.
Matlock has seemingly led an insular life. He is being fostered at HQ where he is already starting to learn how to "be a dog".
He is learning to trust his foster mum and follow some rules. Matlock has discovered the joy of sunshine and fresh air. He has mastered very short leash walks. He is so enthralled by being outside that today he even tried a stroller ride. And drum roll, Matlock has pooped outside twice already! We will be working on that other aspect of house training.
Our mission remains the same as it did 10 years ago. We don't just rescue senior dogs. We transform them both medically and behaviorally then find well matched adopters so our old dogs will have a high quality rest of life.
Stay tuned for updates on Matlock. We will post here once our 1,078th rescued senior dog is officially renewed and ready for adoption.
