The 17th Annual Holiday Community Shoe Box Drive to benefit Manatee County Seniors has begun, and we hope you will join our efforts. Gifts of toiletries, trinkets, and small necessities will be packed in a decorated shoe box and delivered to a homebound seniors through Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee. Our goal is to provide a gift for 1,000 seniors this year during the Holidays. The 2022 shoe box drive for needy seniors will continue through Saturday, December 3rd when we will host a community reception for the program at the LWR Elks Lodge from 4pm-6pm. The boxes will be collected at this celebration. Food, fun, and the raffle prizes donated are drawn at the reception for those who bring filled shoe boxes. This year we will be having an in-person event and also a drive-thru event at the same time so everyone can be part of this wonderful event and feel safe. Masks are encouraged if you are joining us inside the Lodge. What goes in the boxes: New shampoo, personal hygiene, socks, toothpaste, toothbrushes, crossword puzzles, word searches, soaps, flashlights, non-breakable holiday trinkets, etc., for homebound senior citizens in Manatee County. Boxes are delivered with the Meals on Wheels holiday dinners. 10-12 Items are put in shoe boxes and wrapped with holiday paper. Box & lids need to wrapped separately. If you or your business would like to be a sponsor, donate a raffle prize or have any questions, we would welcome you to connect with Kristina Atkinson or Maribeth Phillips at Meals on Wheels Plus, 941-747-4655.
