of Braddock (EZCB), an I.R.S. designated 501(C)(3) non-profit corporation, was established in 1986 to promote economic and job development in the Braddock area. Since that time the corporation has put its emphasis on retaining existing businesses and actively recruiting new wholesale distribution and light manufacturing firms along with creating new employment for local residents. In 1995, the EZC
B in conjunction with the municipalities of Braddock, North Braddock and Rankin expanded the Braddock Enterprise Zone into the adjoining communities. This initiative extended Enterprise Zone benefits to these communities to encourage investment and job creation. In 2007, the municipalities of Braddock, North Braddock, Rankin and the EZCB invited Swissvale Borough to join the Enterprise Zone Program. Approximately forty (40) members of the corporation including representatives from business, government and local residents, are an active part of an economic development "network" to promote the revitalization of the area. Since the establishment of its business revolving loan program in 1987, the EZCB has authorized fifty-one (51) low-interest business loans, loaning approximately $3,000,000 in funds, leveraging over $16 million in private investment and creating over 400 new jobs. Major developments include Gulf Materials, LLC, the Grand View Golf Club, and Gray Welding. Twenty-six (26) Neighborhood Assistance Enterprise Zone Tax Credit Program applications have been processed by the EZCB that have received final approval by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development. These tax credits have been utilized by local firms in expansion activities. U.S.Steel has secured over $2 million in State tax credits for the investment in its continuous caster and other capital investment at the Edgar Thomson Works. In 2014, Trek Development received a $500,000 tax credit for its commercial development on Braddock Avenue in Braddock.
