MCC is working on making outdoor recreation a little more accessible, one ax swing at a time!

Montana Conservation Corps is partnering with Montana State Parks Foundation and Summit Independent Living to improve accessibility at Wayfarers State Park. Conservation Corps crews will have boots on the ground improving several trails. The work will run through Oct. 3.

For Montana Conservation Corps, work at Wayfarers will build on decades of collaboration with public land agencies, nonprofits and community organizations to improve Montana’s outdoor spaces. It has partnered with hundreds of local nonprofits and city, county, state and federal agencies on conservation projects throughout the Northern Rockies and Plains. Montana Conservation Corps work includes trail construction and maintenance, public park improvements, and habitat restoration. Accessibility has become an important part of that work.

The Regional Program Manager (PM) staff position is responsible for the internal operations and day-to-day management of Montana Conservation Corps (MCC) field programs and participants within a region, including the supervision of regional Field Coordinators. Primary duties include participant hiring and onboarding, program implementation, quality monitoring and reporting of all MCC field programs operating within the region, oversight of member and leader progress toward completion of program objectives.

Wage: $55,120 Annually
Classification: Regular Full Time
Status: Exempt
Benefits: Health Insurance (MCC pays 90% for an individual / 70% for a family); 4 weeks annual vacation, 12 days annual sick leave, 12 paid holidays, 2 floating holidays, and programmatic break (Fridays off from Thanksgiving to New Years); retirement plan match up to 5% after one year

Good news! The bridge has reopened and access to the Siege and Howitzer trails has been restored. Thanks to Montana Conservation Corps for your work on this project!

The road to the trailheads is open for vehicle access until the first significant snowfall. After that point, this road will be only passable by foot, adding an additional 1.5 miles (round-trip) to any hike. Trails are open sunrise to sunset, 365 days a year.

Montana Conservation Corps, Rocky Mountain Rangelands Group, and Western Landowners Alliance are hosting two hands-on field days focused on restoration practices that can help build drought resiliency in riparian areas.
September 22: Conrad
September 23: Dupuyer
The field days are geared toward landowners, with conservation professionals and local biologists also welcome.

Come out to support our local watersheds and AmeriCorps members serving to make a difference in our communities! Big Sky Watershed Corps members at the Gallatin Watershed Council and Gallatin River Task Force are seeking volunteers to keep our waters clean. Signups are live for this Saturday, Sept. 19, in Bozeman, and next week, Sept. 21-23 in Big Sky!

Today is the last day of the Great Fish Community Challenge!

Over the last month, our amazing community has pitched in over $71,000 to support our teen and young adult leaders serving with MCC in the Flathead. Wow, and thank you!

MCC crews recently got outside with us to restore nearly two miles of the upper section of the Bear Trap National Recreation Trail. This project will ensure the long-term sustainability of the trail, improve safety and accessibility, and reduce public exposure to poison ivy.
The Lee Metcalf Wilderness - Bear Trap Canyon Unit became the BLM's first designated wilderness in 1983. Spanning 6,347 acres, it offers stunning views and activities such as whitewater rafting, fishing, and (of course) hiking along the Bear Trap National Recreation Trail.

In lieu of another post talking about how our Big Sky Watershed Corps applications are open, here's a first-hand account of what makes this program so meaningful to our members.
