There's something special about photographing wildlife in Yellowstone National Park with a telephoto lens. Animals that might otherwise be distant in the landscape fill the frame, creating images that can make you stop and say, "I can't believe I took that."

Yesterday, our Warriors spent a long day in the park taking their own wildlife photos, putting their growing photography skills to use in one of the country's most iconic landscapes.

Back at the ranch, the experience continued at the computer as Warriors began editing their images. After a day in the field, there's something rewarding about slowing down, revisiting the moments you captured, and bringing those images to life through editing.

This week at Quiet Waters Ranch, Warriors in our Built for More Photography Track are learning the fundamentals of photography.

Led by Studio MacLeod, Warriors learn from experienced photography mentors and put their new skills into practice in a variety of settings. This year's Team Lead and Assistant Team Lead are both alumni of previous Photography Tracks, bringing their experience to the next group of Warriors.

So far, Warriors have covered camera basics and practiced portrait photography in a variety of conditions. Today, they're heading into Yellowstone National Park to photograph wildlife and landscapes.

By the end of the week, they'll have a foundation to keep exploring photography, developing their own style, and capturing what interests them.

Every hunt has a story that starts long before opening day.

For Warriors in the Built for More Hunting Track, the journey began in March. They learned new skills, got familiar with their equipment, and began preparing for the physical demands of a fall hunt.

When they returned in July, it was time to take an honest look at their progress, refine their skills and equipment, and figure out what still needed work. Then it was back home to keep training.

This fall, that work came together in the field.

Hunting is hard. But Warriors have done hard things. The Hunting Track is about taking on new challenges, pushing through them, and discovering what they're capable of along the way.

Over nine months, the hunt is one part of a larger journey toward renewed meaning and purpose after military service.

As part of Salute to Service, The ELM will become a place to recognize the people who have served, sacrificed, and shaped the lives of those around them.

Our Wall of Honor will give guests an opportunity to share the names and stories of veterans who deserve a place in the room that evening.

Service can look different from one person to the next. So can the reasons we remember someone.

On November 6, we'll take some time to do just that.

Our second and final archery hunt of the year is in full swing in Eastern Montana this week.

It's been a successful week so far. But this week is about much more than the hunt itself. For months, these Warriors have worked to build their physical fitness, hone their archery skills, and engage with the Built for More curriculum. They've challenged themselves, reflected on their experiences, and worked to define what a meaningful life after military service looks like for them.

The hunt is an opportunity to see that work come together. The patience, discipline, and perseverance required in the field reflect the same qualities these Warriors have been building in themselves. As they put their skills to the test in Eastern Montana, they're seeing just how far they've come, not only as hunters, but as individuals working toward a more purposeful future.

On October 13, 1775, the Continental Congress authorized the creation of the Continental Navy, beginning with just two armed vessels tasked with disrupting British supply lines.

Today, 251 years later, the U.S. Navy has nearly 400,000 active-duty and reserve personnel, backed by a fleet of aircraft carriers, submarines, destroyers, and aircraft operating across the globe.

From the flight deck to the ocean depths, these sailors work around the clock to protect the United States in some of the most demanding environments on Earth.

Happy 251st Birthday to the United States Navy.

What does it mean to come home from war?

It’s a question Sebastian Junger has spent years exploring through his writing, reporting and filmmaking. On November 6, he’ll bring that perspective to Bozeman as the keynote speaker for Salute to Service.

Junger is the author of Tribe, War and In My Time of Dying, and co-director of the documentary Restrepo. His work has often examined the bonds formed through shared hardship, the experience of returning home and what happens when those bonds are suddenly gone.

Those are familiar questions at Warriors & Quiet Waters.

We’re looking forward to an evening of thoughtful conversation, powerful stories and time together with the people who make this community what it is.
