Scouts from Troop 676, Mountain Valley District - Montana Council Boy Scouts of America celebrated the Troop's 50 year anniversary and earned their 50 Miler award by hiking from Hyalite Canyon to Yellowstone National Park via an incredible route across the Gallatin Crest and Sky Rim trails. Eagle Scout Colter Harris led the troop across a snow field below Hyalite peak, one of 8 peaks over 10,000' the Troop summited on the route. What was a highlight of your Scouting activities in 2023?

Heads up Painted Hills Trail users, the parking area off of Kagy Blvd. will be closed on Monday, September 11th. GVLT and a local boy scout troop will be working to improve the parking lot drainage and fill potholes with gravel. Thank you for your patience!

Hyalite to Yellowstone!

Troop 676 is 50 years old this year. A 50-Miler is a great way to celebrate!

Scouts and adults from Troop 676 and our sister Troop 619 had an incredible adventure. After preparation and planning a route, we hiked from Hyalite Canyon south of Bozeman into Yellowstone National park.

This was an fantastic adventure, with a total mileage of 54 miles and over 12,000 feet of elevation gain, spread over five days. We hiked the Gallatin Crest to the north border of Yellowstone National Park, and hiked out through Daly Creek.

The scenery was incredible, with clear skies allowing us to see mountains 100 miles away. Wildlife included mountain goats, bighorn sheep, elk, deer, marmots, pika, and more. Wildflowers surrounded us everywhere. Also Hyalite Opals, petrified wood, and amazing geology.

This is an adventure these scouts (and scouters) will remember forever, and they have proven to themselves that they are capable of great things.

Troop 676 had a great backpacking trip!

Along with our sister Troop 619, we hiked over 20 miles, camped in the snow, cowboy camped under the stars, and earned 20 frost points. It was a beautiful weekend to enjoy the outdoors.

Troop 676 - we traditionally help with this service project every year. Please consider signing up with Aidan Young (see below) to serve our fellow nonprofit, Eagle Mount, at Digger Days this weekend.

Hello MVD Scouts and Scouters! Your assistance is requested!

Our local Eagle Mount is looking for help from older Scouts (Scouts BSA or Venturing) with Digger Days for the afternoon session from Noon-4PM on Saturday, August 27th with the following:

1-2 more people for parking help
3-4 people for "beautification team" aka water refill and trash pick-up
5-8 more people for equipment gates.

Location: “Off Dollar Drive in Belgrade” --There is no road # as its an open field.

Clothing: Uniform optional, class b probably as it’ll be hot and sticky.
