POV: You finally book with a travel advisor 🙌🍹🧳✈️😌

People have always told me, “Sheryl, I love the way you approach travel...”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My travel philosophy was born from the belief that the best moments in life (and in travel) often lie just beyond the planned route. How I approach every trip - including my own - focuses on creating an itinerary that gives you enough S-P-A-C-E to pause, embrace the unexpected, and connect deeply—with places, with others, and with yourself on your trip.

What would happen if you took a trip like this?

🤠🌄 For the past 8 years, I’ve had the incredible privilege of leading women’s retreats ranch in Montana. Even though I’ve hung up my cowgirl hat as a host, I still believe EVERYONE should experience a Montana dude ranch at least once.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’ve gotten so many questions over the years on where to go, I’m finally spilling the beans on the top places I recommend for getting an authentic dude ranch experience in Montana over on my Substack...or click the link in my bio and set up a call with me. I’d love to help you plan a dude ranch experience in Big Sky Country!

Just back from a week in Florence with my sister! 🇮🇹✨ This wasn’t just about pasta and vespas (though there was plenty of that). It was a special birthday celebration for my sis + a scouting mission for my own “study abroad” adventure later this year. I’ll be moving to Florence for 3 months in November(!!).

Here’s my guide to Florence... a city that is capturing my heart and that I can’t wait to explore more of. ➡️

I’ve booked 77 days in Florence🇮🇹 this winter, and just realized that 77 days adds up to 5 in Numerology…which apparently represents change, freedom, and new experiences?!

Honestly, couldn’t have planned it better if I tried. Feels like exactly the kind of energy this season is meant to hold✨☺️⚡️

If “go on safari” is on your travel wish list, you’re not alone. (It’s on mine too!) 🌍

Safaris are especially incredible for:
🦓 Solo female travelers
🐆 Families
🐘 Multi-generational trips

They’re safe, immersive, and can be tailored to your style. (Did you know you could do a “walking safari” or a “camping safari”?) Also, some popular add-on adventures are Mt. Kilimanjaro or wine tasting in South Africa🍷 which would round out the trip perfectly.

Insider tip: This is one of those once-in-a-lifetime trips you want to plan at least a year in advance. Timing is everything, especially if you’re hoping to catch events like the great wildebeest migration. Swipe through to see my other recs for African safaris➡️

And for those of you who’ve been on a safari, what would you add?

Kicking off 2026 by catching you up on my trip to Italy this past fall….

Tuscany was a dream, waking up to views of a medieval village, pasta making, truffle hunting, traveling the backroads in my favorite ride (Defender 110), wine tasting, and celebrating dear friends. None of us wanted to leave thanks to the exceptional hospitality and understated luxury of the Tuscan farmhouse we booked through

The highlight was an afternoon where we met Sergio Sardelli, the owner and winemaker, who gave us a true education on the Chianti Classico region through his wines paired with one of the best meals of our entire trip prepared by his in-house chefs. It was an unexpected experience that continues to delight…more on this later😉

Italy Part I - Florence

We arrived from Montana and Oregon, gathered at our stunning Airbnb overlooking Piazza Santa Croce and walked to the Duomo in time to catch the sunset from the top of the dome, climbing 463 steps laid by hand in the late 1300’s - mind blown.

This trip for me was all about time with good friends, enjoying exceptional food and wine, and soaking up as much art and history as we could handle. The people were friendly and welcoming everywhere we went, with strangers inviting us to parties and bar openings, eager to talk about culture and politics. On the day it rained in Florence, we met the most interesting people of all ages and didn’t get back to our apartment until 2:30am?!

I didn’t expect to be as moved as I was while revisiting the history of the Renaissance and the art from this time period. Standing in front of Botticelli’s “Birth of Venus” and Michelangelo’s “David” I may have wept a little. I mean, Michelangelo was only 26 when he finished his David?!

My favorite meal in Florence was a late lunch Their menu changes daily, so is always seasonally fresh, and the host made us feel like old friends. I honestly didn’t want our meal to end. Reservations are required.

The biggest surprise for me was the Gothic church of Santa Croce. I knew that Michelangelo and Galileo were both buried there, but I didn’t know that it is the largest Franciscan church in the world founded by none other than St. Francis?! On our last morning in Florence we walked through St. Francis’s gardens to a hidden gem , the leather school that opened after WWII to teach war orphans a skill. Now students travel from across the world to learn traditional leather working methods. We were lucky to meet and spend time with the great grand daughter of the founder of the school…and I may have purchased another suitcase to bring home my haul😉

Renting a car in Florence could be a whole post on its own, but I will spare you those details. We were ultimately successful and made our way south out of the city after 3.5 amazing days in Florence. Stay tuned for Italy Part II - Tuscany!

Eight autumns at the ranch, and what a golden goodbye it was. 🐴🤠🍂
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We galloped into the golden aspens on the Taylor Fork—I was laughing and crying at the same time—and then danced our boots off. The line dancing was off the hook this year thanks to . The wranglers could two-step, y’all!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Mornings began with grounding flows and meditations. Sydney of led powerful equine sessions. We rode hard, fished one afternoon, and sank into massages and sauna time thanks to
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We made space for creativity and ’s screen printing turned the ranch picnic tables into a creative studio.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There were so many sweet extras: Kameron’s barn welcome, ’s pop-up, Ranch Olympics led by who awarded the Golden Horseshoe, a screening of the roundup film, portraits by , and a surprise visit from chainsaw artist Abby of , who carved a gift for the Kelsey’s.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This was my last Montana retreat with Dare to Detour, and I felt the closure I needed, plus deep gratitude for eight years of brave women who came to travel safely on their own terms, to name what they want, and to cheer each other on.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
To the wranglers, staff, artists, and practitioners who helped shape this final week - thank you. To the Darlings who showed up bravely, rode hard, danced harder, and wrote your letters to the horses: you are why I do this.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
With love from Bozeman,
xo Sheryl

A new thing for Dare to Detour—and for me.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Last month, I shared that I’m stepping away from leading Dare retreats. Big change, big breath. And it feels exactly right.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What’s next? Giving back in new ways.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This weekend I’ll be facilitating my first retreat with . (An organization that held me through my own cancer journey, so it’s humbling and deeply meaningful to stand on the other side, holding space for others.)
