We are very excited to announce a new partnership with CASA for Douglas County! CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates. CASA recruits, trains, and empowers volunteer advocates to improve the lives of abused and neglected children.

Advocating for some of the most vulnerable kids in our community is at the core of the Shikhar & Kristin Saxena Foundation’s mission and we share CASA for Douglas County’s goal of bringing a CASA volunteer to every child that needs one.

We are excited to announce our new podcast: Feeding the Family with Dr. Kristin. On the podcast we speak with experts and explore the complexities of feeding ourselves and our families well. We help parents navigate feeding their family and give them useful tips for making positive change! We speak with experts as well as regular moms and dads, just like you. We share our expertise and learn from our knowledgeable guests. New episodes are posted each week as we explore feeding and food relationships from all angles.

The Shikhar and Kristin Saxena Foundation is proud to partner with the NorthStar Foundation to support Camp NorthStar's Summer School Program. The program's goal is to prevent summer learning loss while providing a fun, safe environment to support the social-emotional growth of boys in North Omaha. We were so excited to hear from a few of the young men who benefited from this incredible program.

Camp NorthStar’s chief goal is the prevention of summer learning loss among at-risk North Omaha boys. With significant learning loss resulting from school closures during the COVID-19 crisis, Camp NorthStar’s program model will also play a key role in long-term efforts to rebuild and nurture the academic and social-emotional growth of young men in North Omaha. We are so proud of our son, Shaan, who led a very successful food/ clothing/ hygiene item drive for Heartland Hope Mission! Shaan is passionate about Hunger and Homelessness prevention and was very excited to exceed his donation collection goals! Thanks so much to Brownell Talbot College Preparatory School and everyone who donated to help working poor families in our community!

Heartland Hope Mission is a local charitable organization that provides basic necessities such as food, hygiene items and clothing to working poor families through their two pantry locations. We are so proud of our son Shaan who stepped up to help Heartland Hope Mission with a drive. Since participating in a project with his class last year that involved serving food to members of our community facing poverty, he has been looking for other ways to continue addressing this important need. Yesterday Shaan and I volunteered at Heartland Hope Mission in their Millard pantry. Heartland Hope is a local organization that helps working poor families in our community by providing them with not only a week's supply of food, clothing and hygiene items, but also SNAP assistance, community referrals and job resources. The operate 2 pantries - one in South Omaha and one in Millard.

Shaan is very passionate about hunger and homelessness prevention. When we learned about this great organization, we knew that Shaan would jump at the chance to get involved. As volunteers we spent time sorting through and organizing donated items. We had fun and were happy to be helping families in crisis meet their basic needs and get back on their feet.

Shaan and I plan to continue volunteering with this organization and Shaan is organizing a food/ clothing/ hygiene item drive at his school next month. Stay tuned for more details on his drive and please check out Heartland Hope and learn more about the good they are doing in our community!
