Mary Beatrice Davidson Kenner invented the first generation of what would eventually be called the sanitary pad. Her inventions began as a kid.

As a young child, she came up with creative solutions to problems. Her childhood inventions included putting a sponge at the tip of an umbrella to soak up rain water, a portable ashtray to attach to a cigarette pack, and a self-oiling door hinge.
