Healthy eating can make a difference in managing lupus symptoms and supporting your overall health. There’s no special “lupus diet” you need to follow. Focus on building a balanced diet with nutritious foods you enjoy. A healthy eating pattern can also help prevent or manage conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes.

Research supported by the Lupus Foundation of America and conducted by researchers at the University of Pennsylvania is helping shed light on why autoimmune diseases like lupus disproportionately affect women.

The study found that changes in the process that “silences” one of the two X chromosomes in certain immune cells could contribute to increased autoimmune disease risk.
