Army Specialist Brittany Gordon, age 24, from St. Petersburg, FL was killed October 13, 2012 when enemy forces attacked her unit with an IED in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Gordon, the St. Petersburg Assistant Police Chief's daughter, was part of the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team's 572 Military Intelligence Company based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

As a devoted military spouse, Pauline Trost knew the sacrifices of service. One moment changed everything—seeing a family arrive at Bethesda Naval Hospital, she wondered, Where will they stay? That question sparked the creation of Fisher House Foundation.

With philanthropist Zachary Fisher, she helped ensure military and veteran families always have a place to stay during medical care.
