Growing Hope

Growing Hope Growing Hope is a Leadership Charlevoix County Class of 2026 project.

We are restoring the Boyne Valley Community Greenhouse and replacing tools lost to fire to fight food insecurity and ensure fresh food stays accessible to our community. 🌱✨

As the Leadership Charlevoix County Class of 2026 wraps up this incredible chapter, we are proud to celebrate the impact of our service project, Growing Hope for Boyne Valley Community Greenhouse. From collaboration and fundraising events to hands-on work bees and community support, we came together with one shared mission: helping Boyne Valley Community Greenhouse continue its important work of providing fresh, accessible food resources to help reduce food insecurity throughout Charlevoix County.

Today, the greenhouse is thriving and ready for a spectacular growing season — stocked with new tools, fresh plants, and a brand-new garden stand that will help continue the fight to decrease the food insecurity gap throughout Charlevoix County. What started as a project quickly became something much bigger: a reminder of what can happen when a community comes together with compassion, determination, and hope.

Thank you to everyone who followed along on this journey and supported us through kind words, financial donations, fundraising participation, volunteer efforts, and physical item donations. Every act of generosity made a difference, and your encouragement reminded us that even the smallest seeds of kindness can grow into something truly life-changing. Together, we are planting hope for the future.

This last year has been filled with inspiration, surprises, lessons learned, friendships formed, and meaningful connections made. As a class, we grew not only as leaders, but as individuals who now better understand the power of service, teamwork, and community. Leadership is not about standing alone — it is about lifting others, creating opportunities, and leaving places better than we found them.

We are incredibly grateful for this journey and look forward to continuing to serve and support the amazing communities that make Charlevoix County such a beautiful place to call home. The seeds planted this year will continue to grow for years to come, and we cannot wait to see what the future holds.

A heartfelt thank you to the Kiwanis Club of Boyne City for their generous $500 donation to Leadership Charlevoix County's Class of 2026 service project, Growing Hope for Boyne Valley Community Greenhouse. Your support is making a meaningful difference, helping us serve children, families, and individuals in need throughout Charlevoix County.

At our most recent work bee on Saturday, we were proud to present Ruth Milks, Executive Director of the Boyne Valley Community Greenhouse, with the Kiwanis Club’s donation. It was a rewarding and productive day as we worked together to complete raised beds, plant essential crops, and welcome the delivery of a shed that will serve as a future community garden stand.

Seeing our class unite for a cause bigger than ourselves has been truly inspiring. This project is a testament to what can be accomplished when a community comes together with a shared purpose. A special thank you to the children of our classmates—your enthusiasm, hard work, and willingness to jump in and help did not go unnoticed. You played a vital role in making this day a success.

Together, we are planting more than just seeds—we are growing hope, strengthening connections, and building a brighter future for our community.

The Leadership Charlevoix County Class of 2026 Grants Committee recently had the opportunity to shop for much-needed supplies to support Boyne Valley Community Greenhouse. From essential tools to materials that will help sustain a successful growing season, each item purchased brings us one step closer to expanding access to fresh, healthy food in our community.

We are incredibly grateful to an anonymous donor, through the Charlevoix County Community Foundation, whose generous contribution made this possible. Their support is more than a donation—it is an investment in the health and well-being of Charlevoix County. Because of this kindness, we are able to continue strengthening the Boyne Valley Community Greenhouse and take meaningful steps toward reducing the food insecurity gap.

Together, we are growing more than just food—we are growing hope, opportunity, and a stronger community for all. 💚

Another great day for Leadership Charlevoix County (LCC) at Boyne Valley Community Greenhouse! 🌿

We stayed busy planting 900 hydroponic pots and building raised beds to expand their growing space. So much hard work, but so worth it to see it all come together.

What made the day even more meaningful was having our kids there alongside us. Watching parents bring their children, working side by side, sharing the experience, and taking the time to include them in something bigger than themselves—it really matters. These are the moments where lessons are learned without needing to be said.

We’re not just growing plants, we’re growing a sense of community, responsibility, and connection. Leading by example and showing the next generation the importance of giving back is something that will stick with them far beyond today! 💚
