We appreciate the great discussion around the Town's proposal to complete the restoration of the Gough House for use as a senior and community center. We will do our best to address as many questions as possible over the coming weeks. Several commenters asked how the senior center will be staffed and how programming will be supported. We expect that current Council on Aging staff positions and programming will continue. The COA has two part time employees, and holds a number of programs, including senior lunches, fitness classes, senior citizen society monthly meetings and Boylston town nurse services. We believe that additional programming for seniors and the broader community can be provided through partnerships with other town groups, such as the library, garden club, historical society, parks and recreation, and the Hillside Restoration Project. Additional opportunities might be offered by other groups, either free or for a small fee. Volunteerism will be an important driver of success of the senior center, similar to 19 Carter in Berlin.
